Analog Devices Announces Industry's First 3 GHz HDMI Receiver

- ADI's new ADV7619 3GHz dual-port HDMI receiver supports 4K x 2K digital cinema content input while maximizing the benefits of 3D and HD video formats.

June 7, 2011 – Analog Devices ( www.analog.com ), a global leader in high-performance semiconductors and a leader in the worldwide data converter market, announced the industry's first 3 GHz HDMI receiver for high-end TV solutions (product name: ADV7619). ADI's new dual-port HDMI receiver, the ADV7619, incorporates HDMI® (High-Definition Multimedia Interface®) 1.4a, which supports 3D display resolution and extended colorimetry, making it suitable for next-generation home entertainment AV systems that support the high-speed data transmission required for 3D and HD content.

In addition, manufacturers of home and industrial AV equipment can use the ADV7619 to meet increasingly complex system performance requirements while maximizing the advantages of 3D and HD video formats. Representative examples include 60 Hz, 1080p 3D video for faster and more realistic sports footage, and ultra-high definition video (4,000 x 2,000 pixels) which is four times the resolution of 1080p used in ultra-high-resolution digital movies; industry experts are paying attention to this as the next-generation advanced technology for home theater displays.

ADV7619 is a highly integrated single-chip dual-port 3 GHz receiver belonging to ADI’s advanced TV solution family, ‘Advantiv®’, and features HDMI and high-speed switching capabilities necessary for the rapid time-to-market of innovative products such as Home Theater-in-a-Box (HTiB), Audio/Video Receiver (AVR), High-Bit-Rate (HBR) TVs, Matrix Switches, and Soundbar Speaker Systems.

In-Stat, a U.S. telecommunications analysis firm, predicted that HDMI will play a crucial interface role in the future not only in CE devices but also, in particular, in the fields of DTV, Blu-ray and DVD players/recorders, AVRs, and game consoles. Brian O'Rourke, Senior Analyst for Digital Entertainment at In-Stat, stated, "Implementing 3D and 4K x 2K resolutions, which can be called the future of HD video, through advanced video ICs is truly a tremendous achievement." He added, "With the launch of next-generation HDMI receivers such as ADI's ADV7619, it has become possible to reliably maintain compatibility with existing AV designs while delivering excellent performance in the 3 GHz frequency range."

Transmitting 3 GHz data by linking HDMI receivers with cables of different quality and lengths can be considered a very difficult task. However, unlike 2.25 GHz receivers, the ADV7619 provides up to 3 GHz reception performance across a wide spectrum of sources, cables, and input signal rates through ADI's state-of-the-art auto-adjustment and adaptive equalization technology.

Charles O'Roark, who oversees the product line for ADI's Digital Video Products business unit, emphasized, "The ADV7619 is the first 3 GHz receiver to solve the complex analog signal processing challenges between 2.25 GHz and 3 GHz," and stated, "Supporting HDMI 1.4a standards and a 3 GHz frequency range, the ADV7619 will fundamentally change AV design, enabling industrial and home AV systems to become 3D and 4K-HD entertainment hubs."

Meanwhile, the ADV7619 integrates ADI's proprietary Xpressview™ high-speed switching technology, enabling automatic switching between multiple HDMI inputs in an AV system within one second. It also provides on-chip CEC (Consumer Electronics Control, a technology that allows controlling players connected to a TV with a single remote) and an integrated audio codec, and features full audio capabilities including HDCP 1.4 (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) and S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format) for compressed audio. Furthermore, the ADV7619 includes 2-channel I2S audio transmitting stereo at a maximum sampling rate of 192 kHz, as well as features such as Dolby Digital and DTS; additionally, it also incorporates an HDCP 1.4 content protection key.
