Microchip Launches 5V-Operating dsPIC33 "EV" Family, Providing Enhanced Noise Immunity and Excellent Robustness in Extreme Environments

Seoul, November 26, 2014 – Microchip Technology (Korea Representative: Byung-Don Han), a global leader in microcontroller, mixed-signal, analog, and Flash-IP solutions, announced the new 16-bit dsPIC33 digital signal controller (DSC), the dsPIC33 "EV" family, at the SPS IPC Drives Conference held in Germany.
The new product family offers enhanced noise immunity and robustness with 5V operation, making it ideal for devices operating in harsh environments, such as consumer electronics and automotive applications. The dsPIC33EV family is the first dsPIC® DSC with built-in Error Correction Code (ECC) flash, providing enhanced reliability and security. For security-critical applications, the dsPIC33EV device includes CRC, Deadman Timer (DMT), and Windowed Watchdog Timer (WWDT) peripherals, as well as a backup system oscillator and certified Class B software.
Key features of this product family include up to six advanced motor control PWMs, 12-bit ADCs, and operational amplifiers, providing an ideal combination for motor control applications. In addition to enhanced noise immunity and stability, the dsPIC33EV device offers a simple interface to 5V automotive sensors, such as level or flow detection, and features CAN communication software with rich performance capabilities for executing smart sensor filter algorithms. Furthermore, it enables a wide dynamic range through operation at higher voltages for robust automotive touch user interfaces and supports larger screen sizes. The dsPIC33EV device can operate at up to 150°C and has obtained AEC-Q100 Grade 0 certification, enabling rugged automotive applications ideal for under-hood applications.
Enhanced peripheral integration features include CAN and SENT peripherals for automotive communication, 70 MIPS performance for high-speed control algorithm execution, and DSP acceleration. The dsPIC33EV product family combines these features with low system costs and high performance, making it highly suitable for a wide range of applications such as home appliances (dryers, refrigerators, dishwashers, range hoods, control panels), industrial (power tools, sewing machines, actuators, building control, HVAC systems), and the automotive market (sensors, user interfaces, fuel pumps, cooling fans, water pumps).

The dsPIC33 "EV" product family is Microchip's dsPIC33EV 5V CAN-LIN Starter Kit (part number DM330It is supported in 018). For motor control applications, the new dsPICEV256GM106 5V motor control plug-in module (part number MA330036) can be plugged into the low voltage motor control development bundle (part number DV330100).

Devices in the dsPIC33EV family are available in 28 SOIC, 28 QFN, 28 SPDIP, 44 TQFP, 44 QFN, 64 TQFP, and 64 QFN packages, and have 64KB to 256KB of built-in flash memory. Options with or without CAN are available. The dsPIC33EV256GM106, dsPIC33EV128GM106, dsPIC33EV64GM106, dsPIC33EV256GM006, dsPIC33EV128GM006, and dsPIC33EV64GM006 are available in 64-pin TQFP and QFN packages. dsPIC33EV256GM104, dsPIC33EV128GM104, dsPIC33EV64GM104, dsPIC33EV256GM004, dsPIC33EV128GM004, and dsPIC33EV64GM004 are available in 44-pin TQFP and QFN packages. dsPIC33EV256GM102, dsPIC33EV128GM102, dsPIC33EV64GM102, dsPIC33EV256GM002, dsPIC33EV128GM002, and dsPIC33EV64GM002 are available in 28-pin SOIC, QFN, and SDIP packages. All new devices are currently supported as samples and are available in large quantities.
