Recognized by SIA for contributions to semiconductor industry advancement with highest honor award

San Jose, California, November 25, 2014 – Altera Corporation (Nasdaq: ALTR) announced that John P. Daane, Altera Chairman, President and CEO and Board Chair, has been selected as the 2014 recipient of the Robert N. Noyce Award, the most prestigious award presented by the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). The award was presented on November 13, 2014 at the annual SIA Awards Dinner held at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, California, by John Kelly, Senior Vice President and Director of IBM Research and 2014 SIA Chair, in the presence of over 400 industry leaders and SIA members. Selected by SIA Board Officers and members, this award was presented to Chairman John Daane in recognition of his contributions to the growth of the semiconductor industry in the United States and globally.

Chairman John Daane joined the SIA Board in 2003 and has played a key role in advancing the Association's efforts to foster policies beneficial to the semiconductor industry. During his tenure on the Board, SIA has achieved major policy accomplishments including significant reform of semiconductor export controls, major progress in eliminating dangerous counterfeit semiconductor products, and non-tariff treatment for advanced semiconductor products, among other key policy achievements. These and other accomplishments enable the American semiconductor industry to maintain its position as a leader in the global market and continue to play a major role in contributing to U.S. economic growth.

Chairman Daane has served as Altera's Chairman and President and CEO since 2000, and was appointed Board Chair in 2003. Under his leadership, Altera has evolved into an innovative company and has developed breakthrough programmable technology for diverse markets including telecommunications, automotive, industrial, computing and storage.

An active supporter of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, Chairman Daane has helped cultivate the next generation of high-tech leaders and innovators by encouraging Altera to provide various support and financial contributions to educational institutions. He also respects workplace diversity based on the recognition that diversity of people and ideas drives innovation.

In his acceptance remarks, Chairman Daane called for greater engagement from SIA members. Stating that "as the semiconductor industry faces many issues that impact its competitiveness in a complex and changing global market, there is a need to expand the base of supporters for the semiconductor industry," he urged SIA members to actively participate in today's agenda and support advancing the key issues outlined in the SIA roadmap, requesting that members "participate in supporting the programs as a company or individual," and concluded by saying, "Only together can we ensure long-term success and the possibility of victory."

Before joining Altera, Chairman John Daane spent 15 years at LSI Logic, where he served as Senior Vice President overseeing the telecommunications products business unit. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley. The Noyce Award is the industry's highest honor, established to commemorate the legacy of Robert Noyce, inventor of the integrated circuit and co-founder of Fairchild Semiconductor, Intel, and SIA.
