Micrel's industry-leading advanced solutions for the rapidly growing automotive and industrial markets
On December 12, 2014, Micrel Korea (CEO Youngjun Oh, www.micrel.com ), Micrel, an industry leader in high-performance analog, high-speed mixed-signal, LAN, timing, and communication solutions, supplies a variety of advanced IC solutions for the rapidly growing industrial and automotive markets.
Lighting applications
Micrel's MAQ3203 buck LED driver is ideal for LED headlamp implementations. As an AEC-Q100 step-down high-brightness LED driver IC, the MAQ3203 reduces the complexity and cost of high-current LED driver solutions in automotive lighting applications.
The MAQ3203 can drive multiple high-brightness LEDs in succession with ±5% current accuracy and over 90% efficiency over an input voltage range of 4.5V to 42V. This device's hysteretic control architecture and high-side current sensing structure make it ideal for driving high-brightness LEDs with constant current. The MAQ3203's operating frequency is adjustable up to 1.5MHz, allowing for flexible design implementation, and it provides frequency dithering capabilities to mitigate EMI. The IC features a dedicated PWM dimming pin, an enable pin for very low-power shutdown, thermal overload protection, and Under-Voltage Lockout (UVLO). The MAQ3203 has an external power switch and requires no external compensation. This device is available in an SOIC-8L package and drives two 1.2A LED strings to enable both up and down functions.

To support the rapidly growing driver assistance systems (ADAS) sector, Micrel offers a variety of solutions for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The automotive megapixel Ethernet cameras, designed and manufactured by the camera specialist SMS, feature Micrel’s unrivaled low-Electromagnetic Emission (EME) networking solutions. Measuring just 26 mm³, these megapixel cameras deliver both Ethernet data transmission and power over the same low-cost, unshielded coaxial cable, thereby drastically reducing cable harness costs. Based on Micrel’s advanced power management and new Quiet-WIRE™ IEEE standard Ethernet transceiver technology to reduce EME, these cameras support IEEE 802.3az energy-saving Ethernet, feature sub-micro level Amp standby power consumption, and also include signal detection enabled and high-speed link-up capabilities.
Meanwhile, Micrel’s high-voltage synchronous switching regulators, featuring Hyper Light Load™ and Hyper Speed Control™ architectures, provide full Power over Ethernet (PoE) performance without incurring additional system costs. The timing provided by Micrel’s DSC1001 MEMS-based LVCMOS oscillator supports superior performance with enhanced frequency stability across temperatures and complies with AEC-Q100 standards. Micrel can provide total solutions through its excellent product lines of LAN, timing, communications, and linear power solutions. The combination of outstanding performance, compact size, and low power characteristics enables automotive manufacturers to implement unrivaled solutions that meet the requirements of new applications such as ADAS. In addition, it not only improves performance but also lowers BOM costs and enables the time-to-market for these life-saving devices.
