TI Launches Isolated DC/DC Converter for Low-Noise 2W Power Supplies
With a 2W, 6V isolated Fly-Buck™ converter
Support for noise-sensitive data conversion and interface power applications
TI Korea (CEO Jaejin Kim, www.ti.com/ww/kr ) June 2, 2011 – TI has released a high-efficiency, primary-side feedback transformer driver. This is suitable for use in isolated 2W power supplies used in programmable logic controllers, industrial automation, and other noise-sensitive data conversion designs. (For more information on SPICE models, design tools, evaluation modules, and the product, please refer to www.ti.com/tps55010-pr )
The high-efficiency TPS55010, which integrates FETs, implements a simple, proprietary Fly-Buck topology to provide isolated power, eliminates ground loops in analog circuits and communication interfaces such as RS-485 and RS-232, and uses a 3.3V or 5V input power supply. This 2W converter does not require an optocoupler and provides up to 85% power efficiency.

Power management for high-speed digital isolation
This isolated DC/DC converter can be used with high-speed digital isolation devices such as the ISO721 or ISO722, and with isolated Profibus devices, isolated transceivers such as the ISO1176, ISO35 isolated 3.3V RS-485 devices, and ISO3086 isolated 5V RS-485 transceivers. In addition to the TPS55010, TI's popular transformer-integrated 1W DCP010505 open-frame power module provides simple isolated power conversion and does not require a ground loop.
Key Features and Advantages of TPS55010
• A 2W isolated power converter with integrated FETs supports the development of various industrial products, and the output voltage is set using an external divider resistor and the transformer turn ratio.
• A wide switching frequency range (100kHz–2MHz) ensures design flexibility to optimize efficiency and space, while synchronizing the frequency with the master clock reduces noise in sensitive data conversion circuits.
• Supplied in a space-saving, 3mm x 1mm monolithic QFN package with improved thermal performance and support for an operating temperature range of -40°C to +150°C
Supply timing and price
The TPS55010 is currently available through TI and authorized distributors in a 16-pin, 3mm x 3mm thermally enhanced QFN package.
