Integrating high-performance network processing capabilities into a smaller, lower-cost form factor in the quad-core P2041 device
Freescale's New QorIQ Processor Enables Enterprise-Class Features at the Price of Small and Medium-Sized Business Security Networking Equipment
Integrating high-performance network processing capabilities into a smaller, lower-cost form factor in the quad-core P2041 device
June 2, 2011, Seoul — Freescale Semiconductor ( www.freescale.co.kr, Korea Representative: Yeon-ho Hwang) announced that with the new QorIQ™ P2041 quad-core processor, capabilities for enterprise-grade security networking equipment are now available for small and medium-sized business (SMB) products. Targeted at Unified Threat Management (UTM) security devices, the P2041 delivers performance up to 10 Gb/s in smaller, more affordable forms, such as 1U chassis.

The P2041 combines an advanced multicore processing engine with features such as hardware virtualization, encryption, and deep packet state inspection into a single-chip solution. This integration reduces costs compared to typical 2-chip and 3-chip model-based UTM devices. Additionally, the P2041 is highly energy-efficient, operating at a standard 12W power.
"Danny Mulligan, Marketing Director of Freescale's Networking Processor business unit, said, 'The P2041 integrates optimal processing performance with advanced features such as extensive I/O scalability and deep packet state inspection capabilities.'" "This processor provides UTM equipment manufacturers with a quad-core low-power solution featuring a variety of enterprise-grade characteristics and functions at small and medium-sized business pricing and specifications," he said.
The P2041 is pin-compatible with Freescale's P2040 device and software-compatible with Freescale's extensive QorIQ platform family of products from P1 to P5 levels. This allows customers to easily scale their end solutions and leverage their existing software investments across a wide range of products.
In addition to UTM systems/security devices for SMBs, the P2041 is optimized for applications such as LTE base station network interface cards (NICs), single-chip enterprise router solutions, multifunction printers, data centers, application delivery controllers, storage equipment, factory automation technology, and iSCSI and switch management controllers.
Lanner, Inc., an industry-leading ODM, has adopted Freescale's P2041 device for its new MR-630 UTM solution. Demonstrating the exceptional performance and power profile achievable from the P2041, Lanner's MR-630 device delivers 10 Gb/s throughput, hardware-accelerated encryption, and deep packet state inspection in a 1U chassis. It also supports virtualization for application integration and easy in-service upgrades.
