NXP Demonstrates New C2X Communication Platform for the First Time in the World
Important milestones for safer road traffic

June 1, 2011, Seoul — NXP Semiconductors Korea held a press conference today at the NXP Semiconductors Korea headquarters on the 4th floor of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry to introduce a new car-to-x (C2X) communication platform in celebration of the visit of Drue Freeman, NXP Semiconductors' Vice President of Global Automotive Sales and Marketing.

The C2X platform, jointly developed by NXP and Australia's Cohda Wireless, combines location-based services and telematics for networking security to seamlessly wirelessly connect vehicles, marking a new milestone for safer road traffic. At a press conference today, Vice President Drew announced that NXP recently successfully demonstrated its car-to-x (C2X) communication platform on public roads in the Netherlands, stating that this makes NXP the first semiconductor company to practically prove the performance of automotive hardware platforms related to smart cars.

C2X communication utilizes IEEE 802.11p, a wireless standard specifically designed for automotive applications. This enables communication between vehicles and intelligent transportation infrastructure, as well as between vehicles themselves. The C2X platform, newly developed by NXP and Cohda, detects road corners and recognizes traffic congestion and hazards before the driver can visually confirm them. Consequently, drivers receive advance warnings about vehicles hidden behind trucks or approaching from blind spots. Furthermore, the C2X platform allows drivers to receive warnings regarding emergency vehicles, traffic congestion, and traffic signals, enabling them to adjust their speed and optimize their driving.

The C2X platform accurately receives signals from fast-moving objects even in congested environments and meets industry requirements such as cost-effective design and easy programming. The C2X platform utilizes Cohda's latest IEEE 802.11p radio and is based on NXP's multi-standard radio receiver platform. The combination of the expertise of NXP, a global leader in automotive entertainment semiconductors, and the patented receiver algorithms of its partner Cohda is essential for successful development.

This C2X demonstration, held in Eindhoven, Netherlands from May 14 to 22, 2011, was the NX at Automotive Week 2011.
