Microchip Expands Enhanced, Low-Pin Mid-Range 8-Bit PIC® Microcontroller Family
PIC® MCUs with the industry's largest memory, supplied in 8 and 18-pin packages with rich peripherals, and featuring Extreme Low Power technology and mTouch capacitive touch sensing technology.
Microchip Technology (Country Manager for Korea: Byung-Don Han), a global specialist in microcontroller, analog, and flash IP solutions, today added the PIC12F(LF)1840 and PIC16F(LF)1847 to its enhanced mid-range core 8-bit PIC® microcontroller (MCU) family, featuring rich peripherals and a low pin count. Equipped with 7KB and 14KB of on-chip flash memory and up to 1K of RAM, respectively, these new devices are the industry's largest memory-capacity PIC® MCUs available in 8-pin and 18-pin packages. The 'LF' versions feature eXtreme Low Power (XLP) technology, with operating currents of less than 40µA/MHz and sleep currents as low as 20nA. These general-purpose MCUs are equipped with various peripherals and specifications, such as mTouch™ capacitive touch sensing and multiple communication peripherals, making them suitable for a wide range of applications including home appliances (e.g., coffee makers, blenders, dishwashers), consumer electronics (e.g., battery chargers, vacuum cleaners, printers, remote controls), and the automotive market (e.g., LED lighting, keyless entry, body electronics).

Microchip's Extreme Low Power technology is widely accepted as the industry standard for low-power MCUs and helps improve overall energy efficiency in various applications. The PIC12F(LF)1840 and PIC16F(LF)1847 MCUs feature high integration density and include multiple PWMs with independent time bases, a LIN-compatible EUSART, and up to two I2C™/SPI interfaces. The on-chip 32-level voltage reference can be used as a simple digital-to-analog converter (DAC), and the digital signal modulator allows designers to generate custom bit patterns using a wide range of inputs.
