Korea, May 25, 2011 – STMicroelectronics ( www.st.com ), a world-leading integrated semiconductor company and a leader in automotive semiconductors, announced the launch of nine new automotive power devices that will increase energy efficiency and reduce size and cost in vehicles in the near future, and further expand its power MOSFET family, STripFET™ VI DeepGATE™.

Energy-efficient power systems are becoming an increasingly critical issue for automotive manufacturers. Energy-efficient power systems manage devices ranging from window winders, wipers, and heater blowers to engine controllers, starter-alternators, and energy recovery systems. Hybrid and electric vehicles, in particular, require effective energy management to maximize driving range. ST’s new MOSFETs not only improve efficiency by minimizing energy typically lost in electric drive and control units but also enable smaller and lighter assemblies by simultaneously reducing heat generation.
The new product is a 30V and 40V power device compliant with AEC-Q101, and because it utilizes ST's advanced STripFET VI DeepGATE technology, it has very low conduction losses relative to its chip size. With low on-resistance ranging from 3.0 mΩ to 12.5 mΩ, they are available in industry-standard DPAK or D2PAK surface-mount power packages, occupying less board space. Additionally, these power MOSFETs include logic-level and standard-level types.
To ensure reliability and robustness for automotive-grade applications, the new power MOSFET devices are 1 at both the wafer level and the finished product level.
