March 23, 2015, Seoul – STMicroelectronics (ST), a global semiconductor company serving customers across a wide range of electronic applications, has launched the new AC-DC controller HVLED001. As a product specialized for LED lighting applications, it focuses on power efficiency, safety, and cost competitiveness. By combining ST’s 25 years of leadership in power conversion architecture with innovative high-voltage technology, it enables best-in-class performance with minimal material and assembly costs in the design of advanced professional lighting applications for commercial areas, retail stores, offices, and outdoor spaces.

Because the HVLED001 operates directly from rectified mains, high-voltage and low-voltage circuits are integrated onto a single chip, eliminating the need for additional costs for external high-voltage circuits. By providing a power factor higher than 0.9, a low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of less than 10%, and a power conversion efficiency higher than 90%, it is a compact solution with excellent efficiency and cost-effectiveness for driving LEDs between 20W and 150W, capable of complying with any stringent lighting standards.

The main features of HVLED001 are as follows:

• With the built-in 800V high-voltage starting function, the LED turns on within 0.5 seconds, resulting in reduced material costs and improved durability.

• Provides stable lighting even with multiple LED light sources through a constant output voltage primary side control function with ±2% accuracy.

• The built-in multiplier and THD optimizer support rapid response to changes in line voltage.

The Adjustable Frequency Foldback feature enables improved efficiency and control performance under low-load dimming conditions.

• It provides comprehensive smart protection features including input overvoltage, overcurrent, voltage drop, and optocoupler failure, all of which operate in a latch-free manner thanks to the smart automatic restart timer.

HVLED001 is available in a small SO10 package and is currently in mass production. The price is 50 cents per unit for orders of 1,000 units.
