March 25, 2015 – Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-gwak) announced the launch of a new product family of buck-boost μModule® (micromodule) regulators (product names: LTM8055, LTM8056). The LTM8055 and LTM8056 regulate the output voltage to be equal to, higher than, or lower than the input voltage. Mounted in a 15mm x 15mm x 4.92mm BGA package, these devices integrate inductors, DC/DC regulators, MOSFETs, and supporting components. The LTM8055 operates at input voltages in the range of 5V to 36V and provides a maximum load current of 8A. The LTM8056 has a higher input voltage up to 60V with a 4A load current capacity. The compact solution provided by these devices offers free PCB board space savings in systems such as battery-operated devices, industrial control, aerospace, and solar applications.

For battery charging or precise load current regulation, this device can implement input and output average current limit setting functions. Additionally, input and output currents can be monitored by measuring voltage at a single pin. Switching frequency can be adjusted in the range of 100kHz to 800kHz, and each device can be synchronized at an external clock frequency of 200kHz to 700kHz. Through a single resistor, the output voltage can be adjusted from 1.2V to 36V (LTM8055) and 1.2V to 48V (LTM8056).

The LTM8055 and LTM8056 can operate in the temperature range of 40°C to 125°C and –55°C to 125°C respectively. Both products are priced at $22 each based on a quantity of 1,000 units. For more information, refer to www.linear.com/product/LTM8055.
