March 26, 2015 – Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-kwak) announced the launch of single and dual channel voltage monitors (product names: LTC2965 and LTC2966) with quiescent current consumption of only 6μA. Existing voltage monitoring solutions in use typically require a low-power comparator, a high input voltage LDO to supply power to the comparator, and an expensive resistor divider that can vary across the monitor rail. These additional components increase board space, raise power consumption, and reduce monitoring accuracy. The LTC2965/LTC2966 integrates all components necessary to interface directly to high-voltage rails in a space-efficient 3mm x 3mm package, avoiding the major drawbacks of discrete solutions. Each device includes resistor-programmable threshold inputs to enable window monitoring of positive or negative rails within ±1.4% accuracy in simple low-voltage, overvoltage, or temperature range operation.

In addition to high-voltage inputs, the LTC2965/LTC2966 can raise voltage up to 100V, including adjustable polarity UV/OV comparator outputs. All high-voltage pins are rated to 140V and withstand high-voltage transients without damage. The integrated high-value resistive divider allows ratio selection, providing improved accuracy, power savings, and flexibility compared to solutions using external expensive resistors. Threshold programming is achieved using low-cost discrete resistors mixed with configuration pins that measure comparator thresholds and set output polarity. The integrated buffer reference provides convenient low-voltage bias for external resistor dividers. High and low threshold input pins provide flexible and wide hysteresis range by simply setting different voltages for each pin. When the hysteresis value is not critical, one of the inputs can be grounded to select the internal default hysteresis voltage. The small size, wide operating range, and low power consumption of the LTC2965/LTC2966 make them ideal for various applications including battery-powered equipment, telecom systems, and automotive and industrial electronics.

The LTC2965 and LTC2966 are available in commercial, industrial, and automotive versions, with respective operating temperature ranges of 0°C to 70°C, –40°C to 85°C, and –40°C to 125°C. The LTC2965 is offered in 8-pin 3mm x 3mm DFN or MSOP-16 packages, while the LTC2966 is available in 16-pin 3mm x 3mm QFN or 20-pin SO packages.
