Seoul, April 23, 2015 – Microchip Technology (Korea Representative: Byung-Don Han), a global leader in microcontroller, mixed-signal, analog, and Flash-IP solutions, announced that the BMW Group is continuing to expand the application of MOST® technology in BMW automotive infotainment networks by using Microchip’s Intelligent Network Interface Controller (INIC). The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is BMW’s latest mass-produced vehicle model equipped with MOST technology, and BMW has been adopting this technology in various premium models since 2001.

Since 2001, over 150 million MOST devices have been installed in more than 180 vehicle models. BMW and numerous other automakers are adopting MOST technology for their vehicle infotainment networks. MOST technology provides high-bandwidth transmission and streaming for audio, packet/Internet Protocol (IP), and control data, featuring no processor overhead and proven electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Furthermore, MOST technology simplifies communication system design by providing dedicated channels for this data at application-specific hardware interfaces. Additionally, drivers and passengers can instantly access multimedia systems with ultra-fast startup.

The MOST Corporation standard provides automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers with proven performance and suitable support for the definition and implementation of infotainment systems. This includes a standard physical layer and highly reliable techniques for system management and control through outstanding stability and Quality of Service (QoS). In addition, using MOST technology reduces the weight of the vehicle body, making it easier to meet environmental regulations.
