Airwallex, a global financial platform company, has announced a personnel reshuffle overseeing its SME business to strengthen its presence in the Korean market. The strategy is to support the overseas expansion of domestic companies by leveraging personnel with experience in e-commerce and consulting.

Airwallex announced on the 27th that it has appointed Yoon-Ah Kwon as its new Head of SME Korea. Ms. Kwon will oversee overall business operations in the Korean market, including strategic cooperation with financial institutions, expanding support for clients, and industry and media communications.

This personnel change follows Airwallex's expansion of its business base in Korea. Through a strategic acquisition earlier this year, the company secured a Payment Gateway (PG) license, a prepaid electronic payment method license, and a foreign exchange business registration.

Accordingly, it is explained that the provision of integrated financial services based on proprietary financial infrastructure has become possible, and the business structure supporting the global business expansion of Korean companies has been strengthened.

In particular, Korea is considered the world's fifth-largest e-commerce market and is mentioned as a market characterized by a high proportion of online transactions in total retail sales.

Airwallex presented supporting the overseas expansion of domestic companies as a major goal through this personnel reshuffle. It is reported that General Manager Kwon plans to support companies' global fund management and overseas business expansion by providing cross-border financial solutions.

The company also plans to sequentially launch major financial services, such as global business accounts and payment acquisition solutions, starting from the second half of 2026.

Through this, the plan is to establish a structure that enables companies to manage financial operations across various countries and currencies on a single platform.

General Manager Kwon Yoon-ah has over 10 years of experience in the fields of e-commerce and management consulting. Until recently, she served as the head of the Korea and Japan branches at the Southeast Asian e-commerce platform Shopee, where she is known to have led business expansion and the growth of global transactions.

Previously, he performed commercial due diligence and investment strategy work at Boston Consulting Group (BCG).

The company expects that the individual will lead organizational growth and expand service competitiveness based on their understanding of the Korean market and global business experience.

Airwallex recently announced that its revenue and transaction volume have increased in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. As of the first quarter of 2026, revenue increased by 61% and transaction volume by 78% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Globally, it was found that annualized revenue was recorded at approximately 1.6 trillion won and transaction volume at approximately 360 trillion won as of December 2025.
