Seoul, May 11, 2015 – Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) has launched the HITFET™+ protected low-side switch family to address the trend towards more robust semiconductor solutions for relays. The HITFET+ (High Integrated Temperature Protected MOSFET) family integrates an outstanding feature set including diagnostics, digital status feedback, and short-circuit tolerance, while also offering an adjustable slew rate – something that was previously not possible – to simplify trade-offs between switching losses and EMC compliance. The HITFET+ family will include at least 16 devices with different combinations of RDS(on) (10 to 800 mOhm), feature sets (with and without status feedback), and package sizes (D-PAK 5-pin or 3-pin, DSO 8-pin). HITFET+ devices within the same package size are fully compatible, allowing system designers to drive different loads without changing software or PCBs. The first product in this product line, the BTF3050TE, has begun mass production.

Suitable for use in a variety of automotive and industrial applications

In automotive applications, HITFET+ products can drive solenoids used for valve control with pulse width modulation (PWM) at frequencies up to 20 kHz. They are also suitable for automotive lighting dimming applications, providing flicker-free operation and supporting currents ranging from 10 W to 60 W. In addition, the HITFET+ family can be used in a wide range of automotive applications, such as medium and small electric motor drives for door locks or parking brakes, alternative fuel (LPG, CNG) injection valves, HVAC (heating ventilation and air-conditioning) flap drives, rear-wheel steering applications, and safety relay replacement in active suspension systems.

Additionally, the HITFET+ family of products is suitable for use as protective drivers in a wide range of industrial applications, including printers, vacuum cleaners, solar power modules, and vending machines.

BTF3050TE with integrated enhanced protection features

The first product in this product family, the BTF3050TE, can drive all types of resistive, inductive, and capacitive loads. Designed to replace electromechanical relays and discrete circuits, the BTF3050TE is ideal for industrial applications and 12V automotive applications. With an RDS(on) of 40mOhm (rated at 25°C), it can drive loads up to 3A in typical automotive environments. The BTF3050TE is an automotive-grade product.

The BTF3050TE integrates latching digital status feedback, convenient slew rate control, overtemperature shutdown, and thermal auto-restart. Additional protection and diagnostic features include dynamic clamp overvoltage protection, ESD, current limiting, and overload protection.

The BTF3050TE is available in a lead-free TO-252 package (D-PAK 5-pin) and is currently in production. Additional HITFET+ products are planned for release later this year.
