May 28, 2015 – Broadcom, a global wired and wireless semiconductor company, announced that its single-chip HEVC 4K/UHD satellite solution, BCM7376, will be installed in the new UHD set-top boxes of KT Skylife, a domestic satellite broadcaster. Thanks to the high integration capabilities of the BCM7376, KT Skylife is now able to directly deliver UHD content to subscribers' homes that possesses the performance and picture quality essential for a rich, immersive multi-screen entertainment experience.

Broadcom's single-chip BCM7376 enables users to watch lifelike, vivid UHD content across multiple devices, providing 10-bit vivid color and 60fps (frames per second) video at four times the resolution of existing HD displays. The combination of improved picture quality and color clarity supports an environment suitable for watching live broadcasts of major sports matches and feature movies.

In addition, Lee Han, Head of Technology at KT Skylife, stated, “Broadcom’s fully integrated UHD solution integrates dual full-band capture front-ends, eight demodulators, and a 4K display into a single chip, offering the advantages of significantly improved design convenience and low development costs.” He added, “KT Skylife is pleased to be able to provide a unique and special viewing experience by utilizing Broadcom’s single chip to keep pace with the rapidly increasing demand for UHD content.”

Global shipments of UHD TVs already surpassed 12 million units in 2014, with the Asia-Pacific region accounting for 75% of these shipments. Broadcom's BCM7376 single-chip solution provides OEMs and operators with more options for delivering 4K content. BCM7376-based platforms can facilitate the rapid integration of new services through intelligent system partitioning and management by utilizing Broadcom's secure hardware sandboxing and the latest Trellis set-top box multi-application software framework.

Broadcom's BCM7376 chip is currently in production, and KT Skylife's set-top boxes equipped with this chip will be released on the 1st of next month.
