A real-time flood monitoring system utilizing SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellite data will be established in Korea for the first time. Through the cooperation of ICEYE and KT SAT, a foundation has been laid for government agencies and private companies to quickly identify the extent of flooding and damaged areas regardless of weather conditions.

ICEYE and KT SAT announced on the 23rd that they have signed a strategic partnership and will provide satellite-based flood monitoring and damage analysis solutions to domestic government agencies and private companies.

This collaboration marks the first introduction of the ICEYE solution in Korea and the first time the South Korean government is utilizing the technology.

The government plans to utilize ICEYE's 'Flood Rapid Impact' solution every year during the rainy season.

This solution provides a detailed map of the flood extent based on SAR satellite observation data within hours of detecting early signs of flooding.

SAR satellites observe the Earth's surface using radio waves, enabling the acquisition of images even in environments where optical imaging is difficult, such as with clouds, smoke, or at night.

“By combining i-Sci’s satellite capabilities with KT SAT’s domestic expertise, we can support government agencies and companies in making faster and more accurate decisions in situations where rapid judgment is required at every moment,” said Lee Ju-hwan, Deputy General Manager of the Space Data Team at KT SAT.

Through this partnership, KT SAT plans to provide GIS (Geographic Information System)-based data solutions, including flood monitoring and ground subsidence analysis, to the domestic market.

The two companies plan to expand their cooperation targets to include additional local governments and private companies, and apply their solutions to fields such as disaster management, environmental monitoring, and climate change preparedness.
