June 5, 2015 – Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-kwak) announced the launch of a robust 800mA wide input voltage range linear regulator (product name: LT3088). This device features an expanded safe operating area (SOA) compared to conventional regulators, making it ideal for high input-to-output voltage differential and high output current applications where older regulators would limit output. The LT3088 uses a current source reference for single resistor output voltage setting and output regulation capability down to zero. This regulator architecture integrates low millivolt line and load regulation, allowing multiple ICs to be easily paralleled for improved thermal distribution and higher output current capability.

The LT3088 achieves outstanding line and load regulation of less than 2mV independent of output voltage and features an input voltage range of 1.2V to 36V. This device is well-suited for applications requiring multiple rails. Output voltage can be programmed from 0V to 34.5V with a single resistor using 1.2V dropout. The on-chip trimmed 50µA current reference provides ±1% accuracy. Regulation, transient response, and output noise (27µVRMS) are independent of output voltage due to the device's voltage follower architecture. The LT3088 can be easily configured as a three-terminal regulator like the LT1117, matching industry standard pinouts in SOT-223 and DD-Pak packages while delivering superior performance. Input or output capacitors for stability can be selected for linear regulator mode or current source operation mode. The LT3088's internal protection circuitry includes reverse input protection, reverse current protection, internal current limiting, and thermal shutdown functionality.

It is offered in various grade and temperature range options as follows: E and I grades rated for –40°C to 125°C, high-reliability H grade rated for –40°C to 150°C, and military grade MP rated for –55°C to 150°C.
