TI Korea (CEO Kent Chon, www.ti.com/kr) June 8, 2015 – TI (CEO Kent Chon) announced the release of the next-generation SimpleLink™ SensorTag, a new development kit that combines sensor data with wireless cloud connectivity. This SensorTag development kit provides the following features to enable users to quickly get started with Internet of Things (IoT) development.

· Flexible development is possible using various wireless connectivity options such as Bluetooth Low Energy, 6LoWPAN, and ZigBee, based on the SimpleLink ultra-low power CC2650 wireless microcontroller (MCU).

· Integrates 10 low-power sensors and enables years of battery life with the industry's lowest power consumption.

· Expanding the functionality and programmability of this kit using new DevPack plugin modules

· No programming skills are required as it can be run immediately using a free iOS or Android app.

· Connect to the cloud within 3 minutes by leveraging IBM's Bluemix IoT Foundation and TI's IoT cloud ecosystem

· TI Designs provides a reference design including 3D print files for the SensorTag enclosure, allowing you to design and manufacture your own based on the SensorTag.

· Wi-Fi demo version of SensorTag scheduled for release

In addition to cloud connectivity, development work has become easier than ever by leveraging the new SensorTag ecosystem. This SensorTag kit provides a ready-to-use protocol stack, a free Code Composer Studio™ integrated development environment (IDE) license, online training, and online TI E2E™ community support. Furthermore, since it provides TI's cloud-based software development tools, design examples, related documentation, software, and even the IDE can all be conveniently accessed directly online.

Support for multiple wireless connectivity standards

To expand the standards that can be supported by SensorTag, two development kit versions are provided as follows.

The multi-standard SensorTag is based on the SimpleLink ultra-low-power CC2650 wireless MCU and enables development for Bluetooth Smart, 6LoWPAN, and ZigBee. This SensorTag allows developers to switch between different 2.4GHz technologies over-the-air simply by loading a new software image directly into the SensorTag app. When using the SensorTag as a ZigBee or 6LoWPAN device, it can be connected to the cloud via an affordable BeagleBone Black gateway. For Bluetooth Smart development, it can be connected to the cloud via a smartphone.

· Wi-Fi SensorTag can be used to create a SimpleLink CC3200 wireless MCU demo. Detailed information and supply schedules for this kit will be provided at a later date. You can use this development tool to start developing CC3200 solutions immediately.

Both SensorTag integrate 10 low-power sensors, including the TI OPT3001 precision ambient light sensor, the TI HDC1000 integrated humidity and temperature sensor, and the TI TMP007 non-contact IR thermopile sensor. The remaining sensors are a 9-axis motion sensor (gyroscope, compass, accelerometer), an altimeter/pressure sensor, a digital microphone, and a magnetic sensor.

SimpleLink SensorTag DevPack plugin module

Another feature of the next-generation CC2650 SensorTag is that developers can extend the kit according to their designs using new DevPack plugin modules. The DevPacks currently available are as follows:

The $15 Debug DevPack is based on the TM4C1294 MCU and allows you to add debugging capabilities with SensorTag. By plugging this module into the SensorTag DevPack extension header, you can debug SensorTag using the Code Composer Studio IDE, TI Cloud Tools, and IAR Embedded Workbench for ARM®.

· Display (watch) DevPack can add a 1.35-inch ultra-low power graphics display with SensorTag. This Watch DevPack can be used when developing smartwatches, refrigerator displays, and other applications that require a remote display.

The LED Audio DevPack drives four high-power multicolor LEDs and a 4W audio amplifier via micro USB, making it suitable for home automation and smart lighting applications.

· You can develop your own DevPack. If developers cannot find a DevPack that exactly meets their needs, they can create their own DevPack by following the Build Your Own DevPack guide.

Price and Supply Timing

The new SimpleLink multi-standard CC2650 SensorTag (CC2650STK) is currently available for $29 and can be purchased at the TI store and authorized TI distributors. It also provides the necessary software according to connectivity standards:

· Bluetooth Smart Software

· 6LoWPAN software

· ZigBee software

SimpleLink SensorTag DevPack can also be purchased at the TI store and authorized TI distributors.
