Anritsu Supports BMW Group Hybrid eCall Verification…Securing Compliance with Europe's Latest eCall Standard

Vehicle Type Approval Support Based on EN 18052:2025
Anritsu has strengthened its response to European automotive communication standards by supporting verification of BMW Group's next-generation emergency call service (Hybrid eCall).
Anritsu announced that it supported BMW Group in obtaining vehicle type approval that meets the requirements of EN 18052:2025, the latest European Hybrid eCall standard.
Hybrid eCall is an emergency call service that supports both legacy circuit-switched 2G and 3G mobile networks and packet-switched 4G LTE IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) networks. As European eCall standards have evolved into a next-generation eCall system, verification of both network environments has become an important factor in the vehicle type approval process.
BMW Group plans to expand implementation of Hybrid eCall functionality in vehicles based on the Neue Klasse platform starting in 2026, including future models.
Through this, the company aims to respond to changes in Europe's next-generation eCall standards and reliably provide emergency call services across various mobile network environments.
Anritsu verified the performance of BMW vehicles' emergency call systems using its end-to-end eCall test solution. Through this verification, the vehicle was evaluated as meeting the latest European eCall requirements even in environments where circuit-switched and packet-switched networks coexist.
Anritsu explained that Hybrid eCall requires a high level of interoperability in environments where multiple generations of mobile communication technologies coexist.
The company stated that through this collaboration, it is supporting the testing and certification procedures needed as the automotive industry transitions to the next-generation eCall system.
BMW Group and Anritsu jointly demonstrated Hybrid eCall conformance testing at the 38th 5GAA (FiveG Automotive Association) conference held in Munich, Germany.

Lee Jin-seong, a researcher at Hyundai Mobis, said, "Hyundai Mobis NG-eCall verification was resolved with Anritsu equipment."
Hyundai MOBIS has implemented NG-eCall and Hybrid eCall functionality in its products to respond to European market regulations and technological changes. Initially, the verification process faced challenges due to equipment unavailability, insufficient knowledge of LTE/5G and SIP signaling, and network simulation constraints. However, these issues were resolved through support from Anritsu's MX703330E and MD8475B equipment. In particular, by establishing a Hybrid eCall verification environment and utilizing automated conformance testing and clear log analysis capabilities, the root causes of errors were identified quickly and collaboration efficiency with the development team was enhanced. This significantly improved the reliability and speed of the research and development process, and Hyundai MOBIS is strengthening its eCall verification capabilities and securing future mobility safety through collaboration with Anritsu. Accordingly, this publication conducted an interview with Lee Jin-sung, a researcher at Hyundai MOBIS Electronic Control Test Cell, to discuss the collaboration with Anritsu in the development process of NG-eCall and Hybrid eCall.
