Optimized to deliver the lowest combined conduction and turn-off losses even at maximum switching frequencies of 8kHz (kilohertz), it enhances power conversion efficiency in uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), solar inverters, welding machines, industrial motor drives and other applications.

Among currently available 1200V IGBTs, the S-series features the lowest saturation voltage (VCE(sat)), enabling lower voltage drop and minimal power loss, which simplifies thermal management.

The positive temperature coefficient (PTC) of Vce(sat) is densely aligned in its parameters, making it straightforward to parallel multiple devices for high power consumption.

Additionally, in the off state, voltage overshoot is very low and oscillation values approach zero, further simplifying external circuitry and reducing component count.

The new IGBT product demonstrates excellent robustness and stability. At a junction temperature of 150°C, short-circuit time is a minimum of 10µs (microseconds), operates without latch-up, maximum operating junction temperature has been improved to 175°C, and it provides a wide Safe Operation Area (SOA).

The new S-series is ideal for hard-switching topology applications at frequency ranges up to 8kHz and incorporates 3rd generation Trench Gate Field Stop (TGFS) technology.

This complements ST's M-series and H-series 1200V IGBTs, which are designed to deliver optimal efficiency in the below-20kHz and above-20kHz regions respectively. These three series provide the most advanced, high-efficiency devices for IGBT circuits operating at typical switching frequencies.

S-series IGBT products are available in rated currents of 15A, 25A, and 40A in standard or long-lead TO-247 packages. All products feature integrated freewheeling diodes that combine fast recovery time and high softness levels, delivering very low EMI and turn-on losses in a next-generation integrated package.
