The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has been recognized for its patent creation and utilization capabilities as well as intellectual property (IP) management performance, earning selection as an "Excellent Intellectual Property Management Institution" for three consecutive years. Following selections in 2020 and 2023, this latest selection marks ETRI as a model case of IP management among public research institutions.

 

On the 14th, ETRI announced it was selected by the Intellectual Property Office under the Patent Office at the "2026 Inter-ministerial Public Technology Transfer and Commercialization Roadshow" held at the Science and Technology Convention Center.

 

Last year, ETRI achieved annual patent technology licensing fees of 53.5 billion won through HEVC-related patent litigation and international standard patent licensing in LTE, WiFi and other technologies. This represents the largest amount since establishment.

Going forward, ETRI has set a target of achieving 100 billion won annually through △patent litigation and global licensing △implementation right-based IP contracts △and collaboration with IP commercialization specialists.

 

Shin Jeong-hyuk, Head of ETRI's Commercialization Division, stated, "We have continuously made efforts to transform research outcomes into strong patents and connect them to real value in the global market," and added, "We will lead the construction of a collaborative IP ecosystem so that universities and TLOs can jointly secure competitiveness and achieve mutual growth in the global IP market."
