Hanwha Systems is joining hands with EDGE Group, a UAE state-owned defense company, to begin full-scale construction of an integrated air defense network covering the entire UAE. The two companies have established a medium to long-term cooperation foundation with the goal of configuring an air defense system that provides multi-layered defense from short-range to long-range threats.

 

On the 17th, Hanwha Systems announced that it signed a Term Sheet related to the UAE integrated air defense network construction project at the EDGE Group headquarters in Abu Dhabi, UAE on the 15th (local time), with attendance from key executives of both companies including Yang Ki-won, CEO of Hanwha Systems, and Hamad Al Marar, CEO of EDGE Group.

 

The two companies will progressively detail specific implementation measures in line with the defense cooperation framework between Korean and UAE governments.

 

Hanwha Systems announced plans to expand its multi-layered air defense network portfolio by linking ground weapons systems including counter-drone systems (C-UAS), short-range air defense systems, and Chunmoo multiple launch rocket systems, centered on long-range and medium-range surface-to-air guided missile systems.

 

Hanwha plans to develop the UAE as a strategic foothold for expanding into the Middle East and third-country markets.

 

Yang Ki-won, CEO of Hanwha Systems, stated, "This signature marks a turning point in the evolution from a one-off weapons system supply relationship to a strategic and partnership-based partnership that shares integrated air defense network technology and industry," and added, "We will progressively expand technological cooperation and localization to contribute to strengthening UAE's defense industry base."
