July 17, 2015 – Linear Technology Korea (CEO Hong Sa-goak) announced the launch of the LT8494, a current-mode, fixed-frequency SEPIC/boost DC/DC converter with an integrated 2A, 70V switch. This device features an exceptionally low quiescent current of only 7µA, making it ideal for always-on automotive and other industrial battery-powered systems. The LT8494 has an input voltage range of 2.5V to 32V, and once operational, it functions across inputs from 1V to 60V. Therefore, it is ideal for applications with diverse input sources ranging from single-cell lithium-ion to automotive inputs. The LT8494 can be configured as a boost, SEPIC, or flyback converter. The switching frequency of this product can be programmed through a single resistor between 250kHz and 1.5MHz, and can be designed to minimize the number of external components. This product integrates enhanced thermal performance in TSSOP-20E or 4mm x 4mm QFN packages along with small external components, ensuring a very compact footprint while minimizing solution size.

The internal high-efficiency 2A/70V switch of the LT8494 achieves up to 83% efficiency while operating in a SEPIC circuit. Using a proprietary design with dual power pins (VIN and BIAS), the device can operate from the most efficient power source and optimize efficiency across a wide range of conditions. The LT8494 operates with input power voltages up to 60V for SEPIC topology and can operate with ride-through protection up to 32V in boost and flyback topologies.

Other features include FMEA-tolerant packaging (TSSOP-20E), power good indicator, programmable soft start, and thermal shutdown protection with enhanced thermal performance.

The LT8494 is available in a TSSOP-20 package with enhanced thermal performance. It is priced at $2.85 per unit at quantities of 1,000. It is also available in industrial temperature (–40°C to 125°C) and high-temperature (–40°C to 150°C) grades. All versions are available immediately.
