Telit Launches GE864-GPS, Ultra-compact 2G Data Communication Module Equipped with A-GPS Receiver
Seoul, April 29, 2011 - Telit Wireless Solutions (CEO Jong-Gap Yoon, www.Telit.com , hereinafter Telit), a company specializing in M2M (Machine-to-machine) communication, announced today that it has launched the quad-band data communication module GE864-GPS.
The GE864-GPS is a GSM/GPRS M2M module equipped with a GPS receiver in a small BGA form factor, supporting 2G networks within a minimal footprint, making it suitable for vehicle, tracking, and security applications.

With the same form factor as the previously released GE864 product family and pin-to-pin compatibility, this product is the smallest among commercially available GSM/GPRS modules and supports 48-channel A-GPS functionality. In particular, it features the integration of the high-sensitivity single-chip A-GPS receiver SiRFstarIV™ and Telit's proven high-performance core GSM/GPRS technologies.
High-performance A-GPS with minimal power consumption
The new GPS receiver supports efficient power management, enabling performance with minimal energy consumption and maintaining location accuracy within 2.5 meters. It also supports Satellite Based Augmentation Systems such as WAAS, EGNOS, MSAS, and GAGAN. The GE864-GPS operates independently of the GSM chipset via a dedicated power supply circuit, even when the device itself is in sleep mode or the power is cut off. This is a very useful feature for battery-operated devices that require continuous communication, such as location changes.
The GPS receiver consists of flash-based memory, enabling firmware upgrades. Packaged in an ultra-small 30 x 30 x 2.9 mm BGA package, it is suitable for end applications with low height and small footprint, particularly for compactly designed location-based solutions. Furthermore, by eliminating connectors and employing a Python™ script interpreter, it offers reasonable application costs compared to conventional mounting-type products.
