Cypress CapSense Automotive Technology Enables Capacitive Touch Infotainment System!

Cypress Korea (Country Manager Young-do Lim, www.cypress.com ), a leading company in the touch-sensing field, announced that BMW of Germany has selected Cypress’s CapSense® capacitive touch solution for the infotainment systems inside its 5GT, X5, and X6 models, as well as the BMW 5, 6, and 7 Series.

The instrument cluster features Cypress's CapSense CY8C21534 chip and an AEC-Q100 device, and the AEC-Q100 specification guarantees that the components comply with strict automotive quality system standards. Each control panel features 6 to 8 mechanical buttons that can be programmed to perform tasks selected by the driver. Users simply touch a button to display a programmed function and press a mechanical button to activate it. The console can operate three functions, including the navigation system, AM/FM radio, and hands-free telephone communication.

Cypress’s automotive CapSense device is available for use in Class A (-40°C to 85°C) as well as Class E (-40°C to 125°C), a range unavailable for the most competitive products. The automotive CapSense enables a superior, high-function interface through enhanced durability achieved via mechanical buttons and sliders. Furthermore, CapSense’s outstanding stability, noise immunity, and water resistance deliver exceptional performance in harsh automotive operating environments. In addition, CapSense proximity sensing provides a detection range of up to 25 cm while saving power by activating the interface only when necessary.

The CapSense device allows for trunk opening and keyless manual operation.
