TI Launches Industry's Smallest Wireless Power Receiver Chip
Wireless charging technology that can be easily implemented in existing and new portable electronic products
TI Korea (CEO Jaejin Kim, www.ti.com/ww/kr ) April 20, 2011 – TI has introduced next-generation wireless power technology that is 80% smaller than previous receiver chips. This highly integrated, compact device enables developers to easily implement wireless charging in existing and new designs of portable consumer devices such as smartphones, gaming systems, digital cameras, and medical and industrial equipment.

The bq51013 receiver IC features voltage regulation and complete wireless power control capabilities in a small 1.9mm x 3mm WCSP package. This new circuit supports power up to 5W and provides up to 93% AC/DC power conversion efficiency, and is the only IC required between the receiver coil and the system. “Smartphone and consumer electronics manufacturers need wireless power capabilities, and TI is supporting customers in the widespread adoption of this technology, which makes life more convenient by allowing people to easily charge their devices right away,” said Sami Kiriaki, Senior Vice President of Power Management at TI. “Designers can use the bq51013 to rapidly integrate wireless power into existing and new applications while minimizing the impact on the overall solution size.”
Key Features and Advantages
• Highly integrated, efficient wireless power receiver ICs integrate full-bridge synchronous rectification, voltage regulation, and wireless power control functions into a single device.
• Easy integration with a 1.9mm x 3mm WCSP package while minimizing size impact. Device area reduced by up to 80% compared to TI's first-generation receiver solution.
• This receiver and bq500110 transmitter IC comply with the WPC (Wireless Power Consortium) Qi standard. Based on this standard, various charging pads and portable devices are mutually compatible.
• Built-in protection against fault conditions in voltage, current, temperature, etc., ensures safe and highly reliable system operation.
• 93% peak efficiency reduces internal system heat rise, enabling charging rates comparable to AC adapters.
