'Nest Weave' Supports Direct Communication Between Devices

Nest Labs announced multiple updates to its 'Works with Nest' program.

With this, the company stated that the most comprehensive platform for developers building home network products has been created.

The updated specifications include Nest Weave, Nest Cam API, and Works with Nest Store.

The communication protocol developed by Nest, which had previously been applied only to Nest products, now supports direct communication between devices and between devices and Nest products. Nest Weave addresses various issues related to internet-connected products in the home. It includes connectivity features with power-limited devices as well as devices requiring low latency and repeated operation. Linus Lock by Yale is the first Works with Nest product to implement Nest Weave.

'Linus Lock by Yale' using 'Nest Weave' on Thread is the first residential internet-connected door lock, allowing users to check whether the door is open or locked, set passwords with different access permissions according to family members and guests, and see who enters and exits. All these features are supported in the 'Nest app'. Additionally, remote verification and door lock/unlock functions eliminate any worry about whether users left home without locking the door. Linus can send safety and security alerts as well as daily, weekly, and monthly access history reports. By integrating with Nest, Linus can provide customers with superior security, convenience, and insights compared to any lock on the market.


The latest camera API is the first to allow developers to connect their company's products with 'Nest Cam'. August, Mimo, Petnet, Philips Hue, and Skybell are launching integrated products with Nest Cam that enhance home security and provide detailed situational awareness as the first third-party products.

Works with Nest Store is an online catalog introducing all Works with Nest products. Nest developers can register their company's products in the store, making it easy for customers to search for and use the products.

One in Eight Nest Homes Implements 'Works with Nest' Integration

Over 11,000 developers have accessed Nest API through the cloud to connect with Nest products. One in eight Nest homes is implementing 'Works with Nest' integration.

Developers have created a variety of products ranging from devices that do not operate when electricity rates are high to light bulbs that emit light when smoke is detected inside the house. Now Nest Weave provides developers with new ways to integrate with Nest.

By adding 'Nest Weave' to the Works with Nest program, all products including power-limited devices can be connected with Nest. Through Nest Weave or Nest Cloud API, developers can utilize 'Home and Away' features, smoke and carbon monoxide alerts, motion and sound alerts, and peak energy rush hour events, allowing them to independently control user experience on iOS, Android, and Web while developing interesting and useful integrated products.

Additionally, developers can integrate their company's products into the Nest app and register them on the Works with Nest Store. Building business growth based on Nest's relationships with over 40 retailers, professional installers, and energy companies operating approximately 8,000 stores globally, and visiting the developer website (developer.nest.com) is the first step, the company stated.
