Wind River Launches Free OS to Expand into the Cloud
Published2015.11.05 20:00Wind River offers Wind River Helix™ Cloud, a cloud product line that streamlines and automates the development and operation of IoT solutions ranging from consumer electronics to industrial equipment. To build an ecosystem based on this cloud product line, Wind River Rocket™ and Wind River Pulsar™ Linux, free operating systems, have been released.
With this new product, Wind River not only strengthens its position in the cloud market, but also plans to expand its support scope to include devices, gateways, and microcontrollers (MCUs) in addition to edge-end operating systems.
“Wind River’s new portfolio expansion, spanning from edge devices to the cloud, will be widely utilized by customers and the developer community as it supports the entire development lifecycle from experimental to commercial with a robust and differentiated product line,” said Barry Mines, president of Wind River. In particular, it provides a basic development kit that removes the barriers to entry into IoT for all developers who want to participate in the new opportunities of IoT, and innovatively simplifies and accelerates IoT technology development across all industries.
Wind River Helix Cloud SaaS product line includes:
Wind River Helix App Cloud: A cloud-based development environment for building IoT applications.
Wind River Helix Lab Cloud: A cloud-based virtual hardware lab for simulating and testing IoT devices and complex systems.
Wind River Helix Device Cloud: A cloud-based platform for IoT device and data management.
Wind River Rocket: A compact, commercial-grade real-time operating system (RTOS) with direct connectivity to Wind River Helix Cloud. Designed for applications running on multi-architecture 32-bit MCUs, it can be used in all devices at the IoT edge, including ultra-small-footprint sensor hubs and wearables.
Wind River Pulsar Linux: A small, commercial-quality binary Linux OS based on the Wind River Linux distribution that connects directly to the Helix Cloud. It supports multi-architecture and is designed to be suitable for applications that scale from 32-bit MCUs to 64-bit CPUs.
