ST announced the mass production of the high-performance microcontrollers STM32F469/479 and the launch of the related development ecosystem. The STM32F469/479 is the world's first microcontroller to integrate a MIPI-DSI controller, and the development ecosystem provides various functions along with board and software support.
The STM32F469/479 provides an ARM® Cortex® - M4 processor with 608 CoreMarks at 180 MHz, up to 2 MB of dual-bank flash, and 384 KB of RAM to support cutting-edge applications for the Internet of Things (IoT) and wearables. This product line is the world's first to integrate an advanced MIPI-DSI controller and uses ST's proprietary Chrom-ART Accelerator™ to enable smartphone-level GUIs for other everyday products. In addition, along with the Flexible Memory Controller (FMC) and dual Quad-SPI serial flash interfaces, expandable connections such as Ethernet MAC, SDMMC, USB, and camera interfaces are available, enabling application in a wider range of consumer, industrial, and medical applications.
The development ecosystem allows you to fully utilize the capabilities of this new microcontroller. In addition to the high-end evaluation boards STM32469I-EVAL and STM32479I-EVAL with added encryption features, the ARM mbed-enabled STM32F469I-DISCO Discovery board, available for $61.20, features a WVGA MIPI-DSI color touchscreen, making it easy to use this efficient, advanced serial display interface technology. All boards come with built-in demonstration software, allowing you to verify the advanced graphics performance and microcontroller capabilities typically seen on high-resolution displays.
In addition, this Discovery board features 16 Mbytes of QSPI flash and 16 Mbytes of SDRAM memory expansion, a USB full-speed OTG connector, an audio codec, an audio line-out, and a microSD connector, along with three MEMS microphones to allow developers to experiment with beamforming and noise reduction. In addition, it includes pin headers and Arduino connectors that allow access to all microcontroller I/O, so you can select a variety of Arduino shields different from existing STM32 Nucleo expansion boards to apply the capabilities of cutting-edge embedded applications and easily create prototypes.
The STM32 Cube embedded software package simplifies and accelerates application development by providing peripheral drivers, software libraries and stacks, and numerous implementation examples. The associated STM32CubeMX tool simplifies configuration and initialization, enabling easy operation. An excellent graphics library featuring the integrated graphics acceleration capabilities of the STM32F469/479 is available, aiding in the development of advanced Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs). The STM32F469/479 product line is supported by Integrated Development Environments (IDEs), such as IAR EWARM, Keil MDK-ARM, and the newly released free Workbench AC6 system for STM32.
