Achieve data management flexibility by seamlessly transitioning between storage platforms and the cloud

EMC Korea announced a new product that extends its enterprise data center product family and data protection solutions to the cloud.

The newly announced products and features combine the strengths of public and private clouds, focusing on managing data securely and cost-effectively regardless of its location. Recently, many companies have been using public and private clouds in parallel to manage their rapidly increasing data. Public clouds offer the advantage of flexibly and agilely scaling capacity at a relatively low cost, while private clouds provide enhanced reliability by making it easier to protect and control data.

Accordingly, EMC is introducing storage solutions scalable to the cloud and a variety of new hybrid cloud products capable of protecting data regardless of where it is stored. This enables data management flexibility across storage platforms and the cloud, while also reducing costs. The new hybrid cloud solutions unveiled by EMC are as follows:

Extending cross-cloud automated tiering and data protection to the cloud

EMC's enterprise storage 'VMAX' and mid-range storage 'VNX' provide automatic tiering capabilities across the cloud. VMAX and VNX support not only private clouds but also public clouds such as VMware's vCloud Air, Microsoft Azure, Amazon S3, and Google Cloud.

VMAX further expands the scope of data integration through its automated tiering solution 'FAST.X' and data cloud delivery solution 'CloudArray'. FAST.X reduces Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) by automatically tiering data from both EMC storage and third-party storage products to the public cloud. Meanwhile, CloudArray supports the simple extension of the data center to the cloud by connecting VMAX to a SAN or network switch, and automatically distributes data to the cloud based on Service Level Objectives (SLOs).

Customers who prefer mid-range models can tier data without system interruption inside and outside public and private clouds by combining the mid-range storage VNX with the virtual storage solution 'EMC VPLEX'.

Second, data protection can be extended to the cloud. EMC CloudBoost 2.0, which supports the long-term storage of backup data in the cloud, extends customers' existing EMC data protection solutions, such as the EMC Data Protection Suite and the backup appliance EMC Data Domain, to the cloud. By extending the scope of data protection to flexible cloud environments, public clouds, which are economically advantageous for long-term data storage, can be used more securely.

CloudBoost 2.0, with enhanced scalability and manageability, provides processing performance three times faster and data capacity 15 times larger than the previous version. It also enables deduplication and real-time recovery without the need to build additional complex cloud infrastructure. EMC Spanning, a cloud data backup and recovery solution, backs up data from services such as Google Apps, Office 365, and Salesforce.com in the cloud, allowing for easy recovery in the event of data deletion or loss.



Data Protection as a Service and Simplified Protection Management

DD OS 5.7, the latest operating system for the newly introduced backup appliance Data Domain, supports Data Protection as a Service (DPaaS) in private clouds. DD OS 5.7 enhances multi-tenancy security and is designed to ensure strict data separation between users, even when accommodating multiple users within a single device. It also supports a high-density model to reduce total cost of ownership. In particular, this solution is suitable for cloud service providers looking to conduct DPaaS business by utilizing EMC's backup solutions.

EMC has also launched 'NetWorker 9,' the next-generation version of its data protection software, 'EMC NetWorker.' The new NetWorker includes a new policy-based engine that automates and simplifies the data protection process regardless of where the data is located. This enables the automatic migration of data across various layers; data requiring immediate access is stored locally, while infrequently used or outdated data is automatically moved to the cloud to reduce costs. Additionally, NetWorker 9 integrates with EMC ProtectPoint to provide integrated block-level protection services.
