TI launches industry's first high-performance Delfino™ floating-point microcontroller operating at extreme temperatures
TI Korea (CEO Kim Jae-jin, www.ti.com/ww/kr) March 10, 2011 – TI has introduced the SM320F28335-HT Delfino 32-bit microcontroller, the industry's first floating-point MCU that operates across extreme temperature ranges (-55°C to 210°C) and breaks existing temperature limitations (150°C) for high-temperature semiconductors. This product delivers high reliability, high performance, and real-time measurement and control capabilities for electronics manufacturers requiring operation in extreme high-temperature environments such as downhole drilling, commercial jet engines, motor control, military applications, and medical equipment and surgical instruments requiring sterilization capabilities.

The SM320F28335-HT Delfino MCU is based on TI's widely-used TMS320C2000™ MCU platform and integrates 32-bit floating-point processing architecture with control peripherals and embedded flash memory functionality. With the ability to operate at temperatures reaching 210°C, highly reliable products are available without expensive additional costs associated with screening through industrial MCU qualification testing. This enables rapid design of applications operating in extreme environments and can reduce development time by up to one year. Packaging options such as ceramic and KGD (Known Good Die) provide minimal form factors suitable for space-constrained applications.
Tools, Availability and Packaging
The SM320F28335-HT is a new addition to TI's comprehensive analog and embedded processing solutions portfolio for high-temperature environments. This device is provided in a hermetic CPGA (Ceramic Pin Grid Array) package and is currently available for order. The price is $406.25 per unit in quantities of 100.
Additionally, rapid evaluation of the new high-temperature version and code development is enabled using the TMS320F28335 evaluation kit, based on a commercial-grade code-compatible version of the F28335 Delfino MCU.
