Identification of numbers and labels on thermal images using MSX® patented technology

FLIR announced that it has been supplying infrared thermal imaging cameras and various measuring devices, which are essential equipment that electrical safety management agencies must possess, starting next February.

Last November, the government promulgated a partial amendment to the 'Enforcement Decree of the Electric Power Business Act and the Enforcement Rules of the Electric Power Business Act (hereinafter referred to as the 'Amendment').' According to the Amendment, starting in February 2016, three months after the date of promulgation, electric safety management agencies must be equipped with infrared thermal imaging cameras as shared equipment at the workplace, and resistance meters, clamp meters, and voltage testers as personal equipment for workers.

This is to improve electrical safety management inspection capabilities and safety management quality. In particular, the amendment requires that thermal imaging cameras support infrared real-image capabilities, a measurement temperature range of 250°C or higher, and a resolution of 10,000 pixels or higher, and that insulation resistance meters have a measurement performance of 500V and 100MΩ.

FLIR Systems' FLIR E5 thermal imaging camera is the most suitable product for electrical inspection and is an essential piece of equipment for facility installation, inspection, and preventive maintenance planning. The resolution is 10,800 pixels, and the measurement temperature range is -20℃ to 250℃. It is very convenient to use as the task is completed simply by pressing the shutter button towards the target object, and its robustness has been proven by passing a 2m drop test. The lithium-ion battery is detachable, allowing for all-day use by charging it directly in the camera body or using the optional charging cradle.

It supports a central spot meter function for temperature measurement and provides an area box tool that includes automatic hot or cold spots to track maximum temperatures.

The FLIR IM75 insulation resistance meter is equipped with the ability to measure resistance from 4MΩ to 20GΩ and AC/DC voltage up to 1000V, as well as ground resistance from 40Ω to 40KΩ, eliminating the need for agencies to purchase a separate ground resistance meter. The FLIR CM78 clamp meter supports True RMS AC/DC measurement and is capable of measuring AC/DC voltage and current up to 1000V / 1000A, as well as resistance up to 40MΩ.

In addition, it offers a spot-laser infrared thermometer function covering a range of -20°C to 270°C. Both products are CAT IV 600V and CAT III 1000V safety ratings, and can be used in conjunction with Bluetooth-enabled devices or smartphones by installing the FLIR Tools Mobile app. It also supports METERLiNK® technology, which allows results measured by each device to be inserted or added to the thermal images of FLIR thermal cameras.

The FLIR VP52 voltage tester is a device capable of measuring voltages from 24V to 1000V, provides a vibration alarm function, and has obtained a CAT IV 1000V safety rating.

Meanwhile, according to this amendment, agency businesses located in special cities, metropolitan cities, provinces, and special autonomous provinces (cities) must possess one infrared thermal imaging camera each, and businesses located in special cities and metropolitan cities must each have 15 insulation resistance testers, ground resistance testers, clamp meters, low-voltage voltage testers, and high-voltage/extra-high-voltage voltage testers, while businesses located in provinces and special autonomous provinces (cities) must each have 10.
