Satellite service to be provided beyond Northeast Asia to Pakistan in 2017

KT SAT announced that it has signed a lease agreement for four satellite transponders with Pakistani satellite operator Paksat.

The contract signed this time is for four Middle East beam repeaters (54MHz x 4 units) of Koreasat-5A scheduled to be launched at 113 degrees east longitude at the end of next year, and is planned to provide broadcasting and communications satellite services to Pakistan starting in 2017.

Paksat is a Pakistani space agency, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (SUPARCO).As a specialized satellite service company, it owns and operates one Paksat at 38 degrees east longitude, and provides satellite-based data and broadcasting services throughout Pakistan.

KT SAT said, “Pakistan is a market expected to continue growing due to increasing mobile demand,” and “Through this contract, we will expand the service area of South Korea’s commercial satellite to Southwest Asia.”

Song Jae-guk, CEO of KT SAT, explained, “KT SAT’s entry into Pakistan is significant in that it has discovered satellite demand in an untapped market and signed a contract a year before the satellite launch.” He added, “In particular, it is the result of overcoming the disadvantage of a poor satellite orbit compared to competitors with excellent output performance and sales capabilities.”

Meanwhile, KT SAT plans to launch Koreasat-5A at 113 degrees east longitude and Koreasat-7 at 116 degrees east longitude at the end of next year. Through this, it plans to provide satellite services beyond Northeast Asia to the Philippines, Indonesia, the Indochina Peninsula, and Pakistan.
