NXP's Green Chip Solution for Non-Dimmable LED Replacement Lighting

Ultra-compact SSL 21081 platform realizing high-efficiency, low-cost LED lighting

March 23, 2011, Seoul: Today, NXP Semiconductors (NXP Semiconductors NV; NASDAQ: NXPI) announced the SSL 210801, a high-efficiency, high-voltage LED driver IC for small, non-dimmable replacement lighting based on GreenChip™ technology. With the SSL 210801 platform, manufacturers of replacement LED lighting can more easily design cost-effective applications for the 100V, 110V, and 120V markets and improve efficiency by up to 95%. This is the result of NXP's efforts toward smarter, more energy-efficient lighting.

The highly integrated SSL 21081, including a 300V internal switching MOSFET, requires only 14 components in the finished product, and this small component count consequently lowers the LED cost for the end user. The low cost of SSL 21081 applications is due to advanced features such as LED current accuracy improved by more than 5% and extensive protection, including LED overheating protection. Engineering samples of SSL 21081 will be available for purchase starting mid-2011 for $1.70 per unit.
