Analog Devices Announces RF Transceiver for Wireless Data Transmission Protocols Enabling Reliable Remote Data Transmission
– ADI's new ADF7023-J RF transceiver operates in the 902–958 MHz frequency band and delivers best-in-class wireless performance and power consumption, enabling effective performance for smart grid data transmission.
– The demand for remote data transmission utilizing wireless networks is gradually increasing across daily life, including smart grid energy measurement applications, metering systems for public utilities such as electricity, water, and gas, and home energy management systems. In particular, according to a recent analysis report, the global smart grid market is expected to grow to over $70 billion in 2020, an increase of nearly five times compared to the market size of $15 billion in 2010.
Accordingly, Analog Devices ( www.analog.com ), a global leader in high-performance semiconductors that leads the global data converter market, today introduced the new RF transceiver 'ADF7023-J', which processes the 'ARIB STD-T96' protocol for wireless data transmission.
ARIB STD-T96 is a protocol defined by the Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB) in Japan, characterized by the automatic transmission and measurement of data from remote sources via low-power radio equipment. Based on industry-proven advanced RF transceiver technology, ADI's ADF7023-J is optimized for ARIB STD-T96 and features best-in-class radio performance and low power consumption with a receive current of 12.8 mA.
The ADF7023-J RF transceiver is equipped with a custom 8-bit processor that offers very low power consumption, optimizing system power usage while incorporating key RF functions including wireless control and packet management. Additionally, the 8-bit processor is programmable to execute firmware modules and perform patch upgrades utilizing internal RAM. This allows design engineers to easily adapt to changes in protocol standards and enables more robust system designs. Furthermore, the ADF7023-J can be implemented in its own packet mode or used in bypass mode when implementing enhanced protocols using an external controller.
These characteristics are critical for fields such as smart grids that measure and control power consumption to reduce energy and costs and enhance the reliability of power transmission processes. RF transceivers are essential to ensure stable short-range transmission performance for preserving measurement data and communicating with computers on wireless networks in noisy environments.
