Axis Communications, a company in the CCTV 'network camera' sector, announced that it is stepping up its efforts to target the video security market by expanding its network camera products and customer support.

Axis Korea announced that it achieved significant business results this year in the urban security, commercial building, industrial, transportation, and retail sectors. High-quality, cost-effective video surveillance systems for the small-scale video surveillance market have also been well-received by customers, and the company plans to expand its target markets next year to secure additional growth drivers.

Axis Korea has actively expanded its market this year by launching over 30 innovative network cameras and security solutions, as well as packages targeting the small and medium-sized market. Thanks to these efforts, Axis Korea achieved a growth rate of over 30% year-on-year, even amidst a general decline in investment due to the economic downturn in 2015.

Focusing on urban security, commercial buildings, industrial facilities, transportation, and the retail industry

Axis views urban security, commercial buildings, industrial facilities, transportation, and the retail industry as its key target sectors this year and has launched more than 30 new products, including innovative PTZ cameras, to target these sectors. In addition, it actively targeted markets requiring affordable, small-scale video surveillance devices, such as educational institutions including kindergartens, offices, retail stores, and religious facilities. Furthermore, Axis announced that it plans to steadily expand its target markets next year to maintain its future growth trajectory.

Strengthening market investment, including establishing academy space and expanding the solution experience center

Bodil Sonesson, Executive Vice President of Global Sales at Axis, visited Korea last August and pledged investment in the Korean market, expressing optimism for its growth. In fact, the North Asia region is the global market where Axis has expanded its presence.

In fact, North Asia is the market with the highest growth rate among all regions worldwide where Axis has expanded. In particular, Korea is considered a market with great potential for future growth, as it has a robust IT infrastructure and is experiencing increased demand for high-quality network cameras due to incidents such as the child abuse case at a daycare center last year and the hit-and-run incident involving a cream bread delivery driver.

Last August, Axis Korea expanded and relocated its branch office to the Gasan Digital Complex and began operating the Axis Experience Center. At the Axis Experience Center, visitors can view Axis's various products and partners' VMS solutions at a glance. Axis conducts ongoing solution demos for customers and partners who have made advance reservations.

In addition, Axis has established a dedicated space for the Axis Academy in its new office. The Axis Academy is an educational program conducted by Axis that is now in its 10th year. It provides information on the latest trends in network cameras and new technologies to Axis partners and industry professionals worldwide, and as of the end of July this year, approximately 850 people in Korea have completed the program. Furthermore, to foster talent with specialized knowledge, the Axis Network Video Exam—an accredited certification exam for network video surveillance conducted globally by Axis—will also support Korean starting next year. Passing this exam grants the qualification of an Axis Certified Professional.

Identifying business needs through collaboration with partners

Axis regards collaboration with partners as a key business strategy to establish a domestic sales network and identify potential customer needs. Notably, last October, Axis announced a partnership with Quantum, a scale-out storage and data protection company. Axis and Quantum have maintained a cooperative relationship at the headquarters level since 2014, and the company plans to continue this partnership in Korea to actively target the domestic video surveillance market by selling Axis network cameras and Quantum's video data management storage together as a specialized collaboration solution.

In April of this year, Axis announced Zipstream technology, which addresses the increased bandwidth usage and storage shortage caused by high-definition video. ZipStream technology automatically analyzes the importance of each image in the video, saving critical images in high definition while significantly compressing areas deemed less important for surveillance, such as walls and ceilings. By utilizing ZipStream technology, video storage costs can be significantly reduced as critical elements can be saved in high definition while reducing the overall video file size.

In addition to this, Axis has further strengthened its product portfolio this year by launching various products supporting innovative technologies, including the AXIS Q61-E series, the first PTZ camera equipped with Sharpdome and Lightfinder technologies; the AXIS Q3709-PVE, a 4K multi-sensor network camera supporting wide-area surveillance; the AXIS Q2901-E, a thermal imaging camera with a remote temperature alarm; and the AXIS Q1635, which is packed with innovative technologies.
