Equipped with high-end 'Kirin 950' chipset, long-lasting battery, and circular fingerprint sensor


At CES 2016, Huawei unveiled the Huawei Mate 8, a new model in its flagship smartphone series Mate that boasts high performance with the latest technologies, such as high power efficiency and a long-lasting battery.

The 'Mate 8' is characterized by a spacious screen size featuring a 6-inch Full HD high-contrast display and an 83% screen-to-body ratio. Huawei announced that it has achieved both a stylish metal body and durability by applying 2.5D curved tempered glass and anodized aluminum, which is primarily used in aircraft, and that the device will be available in a total of four colors: Champagne Gold, Moonlight Silver, Space Gray, and Mocha Brown.

As the first smartphone equipped with Huawei's latest application processor (AP), the Kirin 950, it offers CPU and GPU performance improved by 100% and 125%, respectively, and power efficiency improved by 70% compared to the previous version, the Kirin 925 processor. In addition, it is equipped with a 4000mAh high-density battery that allows for up to 2.36 days of use on a single charge, and also supports fast charging that allows for all-day use with just 30 minutes of charging.

Capture high-quality images with a Sony image sensor

On the rear, it features a 16-megapixel camera equipped with Sony's latest IMX298 image sensor, enabling sharp and clear photos, while an 8-megapixel front camera with a new beauty algorithm provides powerful selfie capabilities. Furthermore, Huawei invested $98 million (approximately 116.2 billion KRW) over three years to develop its own image sensor processor with faster focusing, higher clarity, and accurate tones, resulting in a fourfold improvement in camera processing speed.


Enhanced security features with a circular fingerprint sensor

The 'Mate 8' has significantly enhanced security features through a new dimension of fingerprint recognition technology. The circular fingerprint sensor mounted on the back effectively strengthens the recognition area, and the unlocking speed has become nearly twice as fast. In addition, it provides a rich user experience through Huawei EMUI 4.0, developed based on Android Marshmallow 6.0, multitasking capabilities via split-screen mode, and the 'Super Hands-Free 3.0' feature.
