TI Korea (CEO Jae-Jin Kim, www.ti.com/ww/kr ) March 8, 2011 – TI has expanded the daVinci digital media processor platform by launching the power-efficient TMS320DM8148 daVinci digital media processor, which is software-compatible with the high-performance TMS320DM8168 daVinci™ digital media processor. Through these industry-leading video processors, TI is committed to providing customers with vivid video communication environments, enhancing public safety, offering real-time automotive vision systems for safer driving, and delivering high-quality entertainment environments.

• The high-performance DM8168 daVinci digital media processor offers three times better video streaming performance than competing solutions and can provide three simultaneous 1080p60fps video streams, 12 simultaneous 720p30fps video streams, or a combination of lower resolution streams. This enables the implementation of a video-centric system capable of simultaneously capturing, encoding/decoding, and analyzing multiple video streams on up to three independent displays. Additionally, customers can differentiate their products by utilizing enhanced analytics capabilities. This video processor is ideal for multi-channel HD video surveillance systems, video conferencing systems, media hubs and servers, and video broadcasting systems.
• The low-power DM8148 daVinci digital media processor provides a single high-performance 1080p 60fps video stream, three simultaneous 720p 30fps video streams, and multiple low-resolution streams at 3 watts. Like the DM8168 daVinci digital media processor, it includes advanced display and analytics capabilities and is suitable for power-sensitive consumer and medical video applications that require a small number of video streams. Possible applications include Skype™ video cameras, interactive digital signage, video surveillance DVRs or IP netcams, streaming media players, and network projectors.
Convenient product migration options between the DM8168 digital media processor and the software-compatible low-power DM8148 digital media processor allow for the rapid and convenient development of multiple products using TI's EZ software development kit on the DaVinci digital media platform, and enable the reuse and customization of software code through a single software investment. In addition, customers can maximize their single hardware and software investment by using the same EZ SDK to migrate to pin-to-pin compatible Sitara™ ARM® MPUs or C6-Integra™ DSP + ARM platforms, even for applications that do not require video processing.
