Launch of SIMPLE SWITCHER Nano Module and Nano Regulator Pack Featuring Ultra-Compact Size and Outstanding Performance
1A Power Module and 42V Synchronous Power Regulator: Launch of Industry's Smallest Products for Point-of-Load (POL) Power Conversion
TI Korea ( www.ti.com/ww/kr ) October 10, 2011 – TI Korea today launched four new SIMPLE SWITCHER® power management integrated circuits (ICs) suitable for point-of-load (POL) designs with limited space in industrial, telecommunications, and automotive applications.

The 1A LMZ10501 and 650 mA LMZ10500 nano modules with integrated on-chip inductors, and the 2A LMR24220 and 1A LMR24210 nano regulators, deliver high performance despite their extremely small nano-packages. Additionally, when used with TI’s WEBENCH® Power Architect online design tool, the design process is streamlined, allowing for easier and faster design completion.
Further information, samples, or evaluation boards can be found at www.ti.com/nano-pr .
In general industrial applications, TI's new nano power modules support an input voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V, and nano power regulators can be designed to step down from an intermediate voltage rail to POL, enabling a complete power management solution even in applications where space and height are limited. Product demonstration videos of TI's nano power module and nano power regulator can be found at www.ti.com/nano-v .
Doug Hollingsworth, Vice President of Engineering at Gateworks Corp., a provider of OEM network computer solutions, explained, “TI’s SIMPLE SWITCHER nano power module significantly reduces the form factor, allowing us to reduce the size of embedded router board power supplies by more than 50% compared to previous distributed solutions.” The Laguna GW2380 network platform is a fully functional, compact embedded router board that occupies less than 5 square inches and consumes less than 3W of power. Highly suitable for space-constrained, low-power embedded applications, the GW2380 features TI’s new 1A LMZ10501 nano module along with the 3A LMZ14203 power module announced earlier this year.
The SIMPLE SWITCHER power module products, which expand TI's portfolio of integrated power solutions, meet the CISPR 22 Class B radiated and conducted electromagnetic interference (EMI) standards for communications applications. The new nano-modules also comply with the CISPR 25 Class 5 radiated noise emission standards for automotive applications. Additionally, TI offers the 600-mA TPS82671 in a fully integrated 6.7-mm2 MicroSiP™ package for the mobile sector.
Key Features and Advantages of the SIMPLE SWITCHER Nano Power Module
TI’s 1-A LMZ10501 and 650-mA LMZ10500, with a maximum efficiency of 95 percent, offer the simplicity of linear regulators and the efficiency of synchronous switching regulators. .
• This module, an integrated inductor with a very small size, solves the complex layout placement problem that is a common issue in switching regulator design.
• This module provides a fixed 2-MHz frequency PWM mode and low output ripple of less than 10 mV pp, and offers low noise despite its small solution size.

Key Features and Advantages of the SIMPLE SWITCHER Nano Power Regulator
• The LMR24220 and 1-A LMR24210 nano regulators operate in an input voltage range of 4.5V to 42V and provide an output voltage of up to 24V.
• Each unit incorporates a synchronous MOSFET, which helps achieve high efficiency of 94.6 percent and reduce the BOM.
• The constant on time (COT) of regulators adopting the ERM architecture does not require loop compensation and provides extremely fast instantaneous response. The unique bump configuration eliminates the need for micro-bias within the PCB, reducing costs and simplifying PCB design.
Commercial viability, packaging, and price
The new nano power modules and regulators are currently available in bulk through TI and authorized distributors. The nano power modules are provided in an 8-pin lead-free surface mount package measuring 2.5-mm x 3-mm x 1.2-mm. The recommended retail price for the LMZ10501 is $1.80 per unit when purchased in units of 1,000, and for the LMZ10500 it is $1.30.
The nano power regulators are available in a 28-pin micro SMD package measuring 2.45-mm x 3.64-mm x 0.65-mm. The recommended retail price for the LMR24220 is $2.00 per unit for a purchase of 1,000 units, and for the LMR24210, it is $1.50.
