Global technology company WL Gore & Associates has simultaneously launched the GORE® PolyVent XS (www.gore.com/krXS), a compact size measuring only 11.2mm in diameter, in the domestic market and worldwide.

The newly released 'GORE® PolyVent XS' is optimized for small electronic products (up to 2L) installed outdoors, such as security cameras. As the smallest product among the company's screw-in and PolyVent products, it is characterized by reduced space and design constraints during electronic enclosure design and facilitated installation. Furthermore, it is the first GORE® Protective Vent screw-in series product equipped with a newly developed UL 94 V-0 rated GORE™ membrane.

Vent is an industrial product that enhances airflow in various electronic devices (enclosures)—such as those in the electronics, telecommunications, automotive, lighting, and security industries—to maintain internal and external pressure equilibrium. When a vent is installed in an electronic enclosure, it prevents the penetration of contaminant particles and maximizes airflow, thereby preventing the accumulation of harmful gases or deformation of the enclosure. Furthermore, it is a technology applied to many electronic devices because it reduces condensation, maximizing functionality and lifespan while maintaining durability.

GORE® PolyVent XS was developed to meet the recent trend of increasingly smaller electronic enclosures and the industrial need for stable, long-term protection of electronic enclosures even in harsh environments. The compact design of GORE® PolyVent XS is characterized by the optimization of all three of the following specifications, enabling engineers to implement a wider variety of designs.

Size of 11.2mm in diameter and 4.5mm in installation height

Diameter (11.2mm): PolyVent XS has a diameter of only 11.2mm, making it easy to install even in small enclosures with limited space. Additionally, the extra space created on the exterior of the enclosure allows for the installation of additional components, thereby doubling the performance of the device. With a reduced installation height (4.5mm), PolyVent XS has a lower external protrusion, allowing for easy installation in narrow spaces, and consequently, its vulnerability to physical external impact is also significantly reduced.

Despite its small size, the GORE® PolyVent XS provides excellent performance to protect small electronic enclosures even in harsh environmental conditions. The flame-retardant PolyVent XS is the first screw-in series vent product equipped with a newly developed UL 94 V-0 rated GORE™ membrane, further enhancing flame resistance by obtaining flame-retardant ratings for the membrane as well as the vent body, cap, and O-ring, which already have UL 94 V-0 ratings. This provides enhanced safety for expensive communication and lighting products and is economical as it saves manufacturers the time and cost required for flammability testing.

In addition, it meets all stringent industry standards, including random vibration tests and UV degradation tests (UL 746C). Furthermore, its screw-in design ensures excellent safety and durability when installed in an enclosure.

With IP ratings met, PolyVent XS uses a GORE™ membrane made of 100% ePTFE to effectively block contaminants such as water and oil. With a general airflow of up to 300 ml/min (dp=70 mbar) and meeting IP66, IP67, and IP68[3] ratings, it provides fast and reliable pressure equilibration performance for outdoor devices with a capacity of up to 2L.
