Microchip Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: MCHP) today announced that it is offering a low-cost, renewable monthly license for its award-winning MPLAB XC line of C compilers, PRO Edition.

MPLAB XC8, XC16, and XC32 compilers reduce complexity while providing optimal execution speed and code size for all 1,400 PIC® microcontrollers (MCUs) and dsPIC digital signal controllers (DSCs). Additionally, these compilers are available in three optimization modes: Free, Standard, and PRO.

With the PRO Edition available for licensing on a monthly basis, 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit MCU designers can use compiler features and code optimizations whenever their work requires them.

Additionally, buyers can receive updated versions of their MPLAB XC compiler types without separately purchasing Microchip's MPLAB XC High Priority Access (HPA) maintenance service. Additionally, unlike most software licenses, this license is not cloud-based, giving designers the flexibility to use the compiler offline.

“Embedded system designers can further optimize code size and improve program execution speed by leveraging the PRO optimizations in Microchip’s MPLAB XC compilers,” said Derek Carlson, vice president of Microchip’s development tools business unit. “Now, with the industry’s most flexible compiler licensing options, customers can use PRO-level compilation when they need it.”

MPLAB XC compilers support Linux, Mac OS and Windows operating systems, giving designers the freedom to choose the platform that best suits their embedded development needs. MPLAB XC is also included in Microchip’s unified tool chain of compatible compilers and debuggers/programmers, allowing it to be used seamlessly within the universal, cross-platform and open-source MPLAB X Integrated Development Environment (IDE), reducing learning curves and tool investments. MPLAB XC compilers are also compatible with existing MPLAB IDEs.
