SanDisk: The SSD market will move toward high-capacity TLC (Triple Level Cell).

On the 27th, SanDisk held an event at the Asia Tower in Seoul to launch a 1.5mm thick SSD. On that day, Product Marketing Manager Suhas Nayak introduced the X400 product, starting with a presentation on '2016 SSD Trends'.
On this day, Suhas predicted that SATA, 256GB-1TB, and TLC would lead the main market. He stated, “SATA will account for 80%, and 256-1TB capacities will account for 56% of the total,” and explained that TLC would move forward to lead the market.
This preference for high capacity is closely linked to the era of IoT and big data, and one of the major reasons is the expected decline in unit costs. In fact, SLC (Single Level Cell), a type of memory, is fast but stores only 1 bit per cell, making it insufficient for storing vast amounts of data. Meanwhile, TLC (Triple Level Cell) can store high capacity as it stores 3 bits per cell, but it has the disadvantage of slowing down over time and having a short lifespan.

To overcome these drawbacks, SanDisk introduced a 1.5mm thick 1TB (terabyte) M.2 SSD, stating that it guarantees fast booting, application execution, and long battery life.
According to Suhas, it was found to provide relatively high performance when verified by PCMark Vantage scores. PCMark Vantage is a benchmark tool that represents the user-level experience. He also explained that relatively high performance improvements were observed in sequential performance and random performance (IOPS).
SanDisk stated that according to its own tests, the battery life of the 256GB X400 SSD is capable of lasting over 5 years based on a daily workload of approximately 40GB. It further stated that this makes it suitable for digital signage, network devices, point of sale (POS), and commercial PCs. In addition, to reduce the performance degradation that was highlighted as a disadvantage of TLC, the X400 SSD utilizes SanDisk’s nCache™ 2.0 for faster processing and is equipped with DataGuard™, a hardware-based security feature, so there will be no separate performance degradation, they said.
SanDisk announced that the X400 SSD will be released in four capacities: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB, and will be available in 2.5-inch SSD and M.2 2280 form factors, respectively.

Databricks Unveils Open AI Security Monitoring 'Lakewatch'
Databricks entered the security market on March 24 by unveiling LakeWatch, an open-source agentic SIEM. The core functionality of this product is to integrate and analyze security, IT, and business data in a single environment to support AI-based threat detection and investigation. The company explained that it reduces the limitations of existing security operations centers, which have had to forgo some data due to high cost structures, and enables large-scale data analysis and automation based on open formats and ecosystems.
