Samsung Electronics Conducts Gear VR Experience Marketing at 2016 Winter Youth Olympics

Samsung Electronics is sponsoring the '2016 Lillehammer Winter Youth Olympics' to be held in Norway from the 12th to the 21st, and will conduct various marketing activities utilizing the Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Gear VR.
As the official sponsor in the wireless communications sector of the Olympics, Samsung Electronics will broadcast the Winter Youth Olympics opening ceremony for the first time via VR (virtual reality) live streaming.
With only the Gear VR and Galaxy smartphones that support it, users can experience the opening ceremony venue vividly through virtual reality from anywhere. Samsung Electronics plans to produce VR content of the opening ceremony, torch lighting, and athlete procession scenes together with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Additionally, Samsung Electronics will operate the 'Samsung Galaxy Studio' from the 11th at major locations in Lillehammer, where visitors can experience the latest Galaxy smartphones and Gear VR.
In particular, at the VR station in the 'Samsung Galaxy Studio', visitors can experience a vivid 360-degree stereoscopic image of skiing on snowy slopes as if actually skiing, using a 4D experience chair in virtual reality.
Samsung Electronics has set the campaign theme for this Olympics as 'The Only Way to Know' and plans to carry out various activities to support and share challenge and passion with young people around the world.
Lee Young-hee, Senior Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Wireless Business Division, stated, "It is a great honor to spread the spirit of the Youth Olympics to Lillehammer and the world through Samsung Electronics' innovative mobile technology and Gear VR," and added, "Samsung Electronics will continue to support the dreams and passion of young people around the world through new cutting-edge technology and more innovative mobile devices."
Samsung Electronics' virtual reality headset 'Gear VR' is compatible with 'Galaxy Note5', 'Galaxy S6 Edge+', 'Galaxy S6 Edge', and 'Galaxy S6', and supports 360-degree panoramic view and a wide 96-degree field of view, providing vivid spatial perception as if the user is inside the video.
