Provides flexibility and power protection for advanced industrial battery applications

TI announced the launch of the industry's first single-chip 100V high-side FET driver for high-power lithium-ion battery applications. Providing advanced power protection and control capabilities, this new bq76200 high-voltage solution efficiently drives high-side N-channel charge and discharge FETs in batteries widely used in energy storage systems and motor drive applications, including drones, power tools, and electric bicycles.

The 100V high-side FET driver provides stronger protection than typical 50V low-side FET driver solutions when inductive transients occur in motor drive applications, where battery voltage can rapidly rise by more than 200% above normal levels. Additionally, the bq76200 maintains continuous battery monitoring and enhanced system diagnostics even when not in charging or discharging states.

Key features include a wide supply voltage range that enables compatibility with various battery architectures and capacities, providing a voltage range of 8V to 75V and an absolute maximum voltage of 100V. Additionally, advanced protection FET control minimizes error response time through high-speed switching, and the discharge FET operation is stopped in the event of battery over-discharge.

To accelerate development time and reduce costs, adaptive drivers can be used with small to large power FET arrays by simply adjusting the charge pump capacitor, thereby reducing engineering costs and shortening development time. Finally, the bq76200 integrates a high-voltage charge pump and a dual FET driver into a single 5mm x 4.4mm x 1mm TSSOP (thin shrink small outline package).

Because the bq76200 can be used with the bq76940 battery monitoring product family, it is suitable for applications that require high-side FET drive and constant communication. Additionally, the bq76200 evaluation module can drive TI's CSD19531Q5A 100V NexFET™ power MOSFET.

The bq76200 is currently available at the TI store and TI authorized distributors. The driver is provided in a 16-pin TSSOP package, and the price is $1.69 per unit for quantities of 1,000.
