STMicroelectronics' IPAD™ technology and simplification of high-bandwidth protection products
Integrating common-mode filtering and ESD-protection data-line functions essential for high-speed data circuit implementation through professional integration technology and innovative design technology

Industry's first single-chip IC implementation
Korea, February 21, 2011 – STMicroelectronics ( www.st.com ), a leading supplier of semiconductors for wireless devices, has launched a new IC that simplifies the design and components of high-speed data circuits commonly used for smartphones, tablet PCs, and mobile computers, as well as for wired connections such as USB 2.0 and HDMI. ST is a global leader in IPAD™ (Integrated Passive and Active Device) technology, which supports these new devices.
ECMF02 and ECMF04 are the industry's first silicon-based ICs to integrate common-mode filtering and ESD protection functions required for high-speed data lines. Common-mode filtering prevents data errors caused by EMI and is typically implemented using separate ceramic-type components. ST's new devices support cost-effective single-chip solutions by reducing PCB space and simplifying design and assembly.
ST currently supplies over 30% of the global IPAD components market and has patented a new filter topology capable of implementing Common-Mode Filters (CMF) in silicon. This patented technology represents an innovation that can reduce the PCB space typically required to independently implement CMF and ESD protection functions by up to 50%. Furthermore, with a height of only 0.55mm, it enables designers to develop ultra-slim products.
Main Features:
• ECMF02 – Single-channel device
• ECMF
