TI Launches Industry's Smallest Profibus RS-485 Transceiver with Integrated Driver for Highest Efficiency and Lowest EMI Characteristics
– TI has released an isolated half-duplex differential line transceiver with an integrated transformer driver. The ISO1176T provides primary voltage for the isolated transformer and, when combined with external transformers, rectifiers, and regulators, enables the industry's ultra-small isolated signal and power system designs that deliver maximum efficiency and lowest electromagnetic interference (EMI) characteristics. Applications include Profibus systems, factory and building automation, network sensors, motor/motion control, HVAC, and network security stations. The ISO1176T can be used with regulators such as TI’s TPS76350 LDO (low-dropout) voltage regulator, which offers advantages such as low-power operation and a small package. This regulator features LDO voltage and quiescent current compared to traditional LDO regulators, making it suitable for space-constrained and cost-sensitive designs and applications.

• Enhanced Lifetime and Reliability: TI's capacitive isolation technique utilizes SiO2 as the insulating dielectric to increase reliability and lifespan by more than double compared to magnetic or optical isolation techniques, providing 2500Vrms of isolation between the line transceiver and the logic-level interface to reduce the risk of data distortion and damage to expensive control circuits over long transmission lines.
• Space and Cost Reduction: By integrating the transformer driver into the transceiver, components are reduced, saving up to 20% of board space compared to competing solutions.
