TI Showcases Various Technologies at Mobile World Congress (MWC 2011)

TI and ANT+ Introduce the First Smartphone Capable of Connecting to ANT+ Health/Fitness Devices
TI and Dynastream Innovations Inc.'s ANT Wireless business unit ( www.thisisant.com ) have unveiled the Sony Ericsson Xperia™, the first smartphone capable of communicating with ultra-low power (ULP) ANT+ health and fitness device networks. This mobile solution can collect and transmit generated data to the cloud in real time.
This ANT+ connectivity is enabled by TI's WiLink™ 6.0 triple wireless single-chip solution in the newly announced Sony Ericsson Xperia™ neo and Xperia™ pro, as well as the Xperia™ arc. Additionally, high-end Xperia™ smartphones such as the Xperia™ X10 mini, Xperia™ X10 mini pro, and Xperia™ X8 are the first mobile handsets to run ANT+. Using the WiLink solution, these smartphones can directly link to the existing ANT+ ecosystem of over 14 million ULP health and fitness devices.
Demonstration of the world's first Android development platform implementing Zigbee® and Zigbee RF4CE on smartphones and tablets
TI is introducing the Android 2.2 software development platform, designed to simplify the integration of Zigbee® and Zigbee RF4CE protocol stacks into mobile devices. This enables mobile device manufacturers to directly connect the growing market for consumer electronics and smart home applications for the first time in the industry. As a result, users can remotely control smart TVs and set-top boxes and manage utilities via smartphones or tablets, maximizing mobile device usability and providing consumers with flexibility.
IEEE 802.15.4 wireless technology is one of the most prominent protocols today, and TI's Android software facilitates mobile 802.15.4 wireless interoperability with home appliances and green smart home solutions.
Unveiling new mobile technology with various ecosystem partners
TI and its ecosystem partners showcased multiple mobile devices equipped with OMAP™ 4 processors running on Linux, Android, and QNX OS. The demonstration presented the diverse possibilities enabled by application software ported to TI's OMAP platform. Furthermore, it illustrated use cases in the booming mobile device industry made possible by high-performance, low-power OMAP technology, including web browsing, rich Adobe Flash®-based content, augmented reality (AR), touchless gestures, 3D stereoscopic images, games and user interfaces, content-protected streaming services, and HD mobile video conferencing.
