LG U+ provides stable home services using fast 'U+ Optical Gigabit' internet

LG U+ Optical Gigabit internet, which is up to 10 times faster than existing services, is now available in all apartments and houses in Seoul where LG U+ internet service can be installed.
LG U+ announced on the 14th that it has built optical gigabit coverage with 1Gbps speed, up to 10 times faster than the existing 100Mbps ultra-high-speed internet, across all Seoul areas, making U+ Optical Gigabit service available for installation whenever LG U+ internet service is available.
U+ Optical Gigabit offers maximum internet speed of 1Gbps, enabling seamless large-capacity video uploads and downloads. A 1.2GB movie can be downloaded in as little as 10 seconds. Additionally, with wireless speeds up to 867Mbps, U+ Optical Gigabit Wi-Fi, the industry's first gigabit Wi-Fi, allows the entire family to use wireless internet seamlessly throughout the home.
Through U+ Optical Gigabit, users can stably enjoy LG U+'s differentiated home services including U+ TV G4K UHD offering UHD quality 4 times clearer than existing HD quality, U+ TV Gwoofer, Curation TV, and a total of 14 types of home IoT services that recently exceeded 200,000 subscribers. Additionally, with monthly discounts of up to 5,000 won available, users can experience the highest quality at the lowest price offered by any carrier.
Based on 'U+ Optical Gigabit slim,' the monthly fee for standalone use is 28,000 won (based on 3-year contract, VAT excluded). When bundled with LG U+'s IPTV or home IoT services, a 3,000 won discount is applied. When bundled with core rate plan products (reference 1), an additional 2,000 won discount is applied, reducing the monthly fee to as low as 23,000 won, and optical gigabit Wi-Fi is provided free of charge, further reducing consumer costs.
LG U+ plans to build 100% nationwide optical gigabit coverage by the end of this year, along with the opening of optical gigabit coverage across all Seoul areas.
Jung Yong-il, head of LG U+'s home infrastructure business division, stated, "With the completion of U+ Optical Gigabit internet coverage across all Seoul areas, customers can now install U+ Optical Gigabit service immediately in any apartment or house where LG U+ internet service is available," and added, "By year-end, we will ensure that optical gigabit service can be used nationwide with stable quality and affordable pricing."

SK Telecom First Applies AI-Based Network Operations at Gwanghwamun K-Pop Concert
SK Telecom announced that it applied an AI-based network operation system for the first time at a large-scale K-pop concert held in the Gwanghwamun area of Seoul on March 21st, managing communication quality throughout the event. Mobile data usage during the three hours before and after the concert reached 12.15TB, approximately doubling compared to the same time slot the previous weekend. SK Telecom monitored traffic using the AI system 'A-One' in five-minute and 50-meter units to respond to potential overload situations, while also operating temporary communication facilities and on-site personnel in parallel. This case is interpreted as confirmation of the practical applicability of AI-based autonomous network operation in an environment where demand from dense events and foreign users increases simultaneously.

ETRI Develops 200Gbps Photodetector… Initiates Localization of Optical Receivers for AI Data Centers
The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has developed a photodetector device that processes optical signals of approximately 200Gbps per channel for the first time in Korea. This device is a component that converts optical signals into electrical signals and determines the reception performance of AI data centers and 5G/6G communication networks. ETRI achieved bandwidth of 70GHz or higher and optical responsivity of 0.75A/W or higher, and integrated an indium phosphide lens on the rear of the chip to enhance optical reception efficiency and alignment convenience. The technology was presented at OECC 2025 and was recently published in the international academic journal 'Optics Express'.
