CA Technologies Korea stated that the majority of companies (69%) in the Asia-Pacific and Japan regions are adopting DevOps, with 15% already implementing it at a significant level. In Korea, the adoption rate of DevOps was found to be 56%. Korean companies cited responding to increasing customer demands, creating new and innovative customer experiences, and contributing more actively to value through IT as the main reasons for adopting DevOps.

This survey was commissioned by CA Technologies and conducted by IT industry analysis firm Freeform Dynamics, targeting 1,442 senior IT and business executives across nine industries in 16 countries worldwide. It combined online surveys with in-depth telephone interviews. DevOps is a combination of Development and Operation, aiming to rapidly develop and deploy software and services through close coordination and collaboration between development and operations organizations.

According to the survey, global companies leading in DevOps adoption have strengthened business competitiveness, retained customers, and increased revenue and profits by implementing Digital Initiatives. Globally, companies with DevOps maturity were twice as likely to increase revenue and 2.4 times as likely to increase profits compared to companies that had not adopted DevOps.

Companies in the Asia-Pacific and Japan regions that have advanced DevOps adoption demonstrated a 3x higher probability of market share growth, improved customer profitability (2.3x), customer retention (2.2x), creation of new revenue streams (2.2x), and customer acquisition (2x) compared to companies that have not adopted DevOps.

CA DevOps solutions and Agile methodologies support rapid development, test automation, and rapid deployment, enhancing competitiveness in an application-centric business environment.”


We announced nine key points derived from the results of this survey to maximize DevOps effectiveness.

The first factor, clear DevOps strategies and goals, was recognized as a key factor in driving business agility and responding to customer requests. However, only 52% of respondents practicing DevOps in the Asia-Pacific and Japan regions (48% in Korea) had established clear DevOps strategies and goals.

Secondly, regarding security and compliance, 44% of DevOps-implemented companies in the Asia-Pacific and Japan regions were striving to improve security and compliance. However, the majority of DevOps activities still did not receive sufficient support in terms of execution platforms and risk management.

Regarding the third point, business stakeholder education, 87% of companies in the Asia-Pacific and Japan regions (73% in Korea) answered that business stakeholder education is important, but only 31% (17% in Korea) actually put it into practice.

The fourth and fifth points concerned IT organizations. Regarding the setting of business priorities within IT organizations, 85% (74% in Korea) recognized the importance of having a sufficient understanding of business priorities. However, among companies that have adopted DevOps, only 31% (21% in Korea) actually implemented this. Cultural harmony and teamwork within IT organizations are major obstacles to DevOps success. Respondents in the Asia-Pacific and Japan regions cited cultural barriers between development and operations teams as the most difficult issue. Only 26% (17% in Korea) of companies had achieved cultural harmony within their IT organizations.

The remaining four key points for successful DevOps execution are cross-functional IT processing, relevant IT knowledge and skills, appropriate infrastructure and tools, and appropriate supply and support.
